As I've said elsewhere on this forum, I don't think pushing service intervals out to two years is in the best interests of a long and trouble free life of the engine, and I suspect is being done to make the cars more attractive to corporate/fleet buyers who want minimum running costs for the short time they own the car, and who can sell it on before the first service is due.

It's interesting to hear that some of the engines themselves are asking for more regular oil changes :D

I myself have the 2.2 engine which LR say should have an oil change every year, but even then I do an interim oil change at six months. I plan to keep the car for at least ten years, and I think regular oil changes are the cheapest and best insurance you can get.

After over 6 months of trying, I finally got this issue fixed yesterday. Dealer had a recall on the car for Q624 and also Q627 (Service required message not appearing on the car) and when applied they automatically solved the problem of the service due message appearing on the app.
However, the dealer did say that the car required an oil change and after only 11,900 miles!
At least this work was all done under warranty.
Same here. Car in for something else, so got them to fix Q627 and Q624 while it was there. So this morning I get "Service due in 700 miles". According to the dealer this is because the service interval on some Ingenium engines was wrongly set to 1 year. The 700 miles seems to be code for "end of 12 months", since it hasn't changed in the last 45 miles! So it's another trip to the dealer to get the interval reset - apparently they may have to do an oil change as part of the process. Looks like your dealer was a bit more up to speed on this!
Well, it took 3 attempts and to be fair, they were flummoxed by it at first, but eventually got a response from JLR and could thus apply the fix.
It was annoying though that at 2nd attempt in November last year, they did some other updates and deleted all the saved destinations in the sat-nav.

My app has been telling me for months that the car is due a service.......but car only 12 months old and 7500 miles now. Car not giving a service reminder message at all, and my dealer doesn't know why and could only suggest uninstalling the app and reinstalling it which has made no difference so have given up and just ignoring. Reckon I will remember when 2 years is up! :?

Hedgehog - has your car had the Q627 update (check if it's due on TOPIx). The update is to remedy the fact that the car does not show the "service due" message. Mine was showing nothing until I had the update done!

Ahhh if I had read all the posts before posting I may have picked this up  Thanks, no my car is showing Q627 as outstanding on TOPix so perhaps that will resolve it....or not

"Service due in 700 miles" yesterday has become "Service due in 750 miles" today. If it goes up by 50 miles a day it might reach the right figure at some stage!

Have DS bought new in Oct 2015 now has 15000 miles, took vehicle in for some soft wear updates and it was returned with Service required indicator on vehicles centre console. This was not displayed when I took the vehicle in.
So had to return the car a few days later. They checked the vehicle and stated service was not due until 2yrs or 21000 miles but decided to change oil and filter at no charge and reset service indicator.

Mine went in for warranty work and they also carried out a list of jobs which were flagged up by their system. One of these was to test the condition of the oil (have done 11K miles) and change it with the filter if necessary under warranty as some vehicles have been flagging up that they need a service before the 2 years. Apparently it tested ok so no action required. How do they test the oil??

Oil can quite readily be tested for quality, it requires representative samples to be taken and tested for 1/ water content, 2/ fuel contamination, 3/ solids in solution. Other tests can also be specified, but these type of tests are normally done on systems containing large reservoirs of oil, say over 1000 litres as it is important to know future life of oil and the cost of changing in excess of 1000 litres makes testing appropriate. I haven't heard of this on very small systems where the testing cost may be in excess of the value of oil in system!!

It gets weirder. Car has around 14000 on the clock and is 11 months old. Service on Ingenium is due at 2 years or 21000 miles. Q627 update done when at the dealer's for something else, brought up a "service due" warning as stated in above post. So I've arranged to take it back in at the end of Feb to have the warning sorted out and "possible oil change". Today the dealer has e-mailed me to say a service is due "in line with the manufacturer's schedule" and would I please book it in.
In addition, I got a phone call asking me how satisfied I was with the work carried out. Then I got an e-mail request for the same information. So I filled in the questionnaire, pressed "submit" and got a message "website not found". Then I got another request for feedback. You will not be surprised to learn that I deleted it. No wonder everything to do with the dealers is so expensive!

Car went in today and the verdict is that some Ingenium engines were programmed with the wrong service interval. Dealer did an oil and filter change under warranty. "First" service is still due at 21000 miles. OSR is showing the PDI and also pre-sale check (car bought as ex-demo). Apparently today's oil change counts as warranty not service, and won't show on the service record. If anyone is still having this problem, looks like this is the definitive fix.

Mine has the same message, its been coming up on my iPhone since the car was 10 months old, (its now 15 months old. Garage told me to ignore it! I think it is a leftover from when the service intervals were 16,000/12 months. They changed the service interval to 21,000/24 months but have never updated the software/phone app.

Hillwalker. Your car is probably due the Q627 update, which will bring up the same service reminder on the dash. LR are aware of the problem and it seems that the dealer should offer you a free oil and filter change, like mine did.

Thanks for that, I took it in recently for an AdBlue top up (I have a service agreement) and they did update something to do with the touch screen software, but I still get the 'Service Required' coming up. They didn't offer an oil change.

Hillwalker, check on TOPIx to see whether the Q627 update is due. It won't solve the problem, but it will correct the fault that is stopping the reminder appearing on the dash.

Past Master, I am pretty sure I recall they did that when it went in for AdBlue. They said there are a number of issues that are due to be addressed but they can wait till the 21,000 service. I have done 18,500 now so it won't be long.

Hello,

Apologies if this has been covered already but thought it may be useful. My car (delivered August last year) has 9000 miles on it and started flashing that service was due and also that 2nd adblue was required (it was filled about 3000 miles ago!). Called Dealer saying that I thought service interval was much longer but he explained it is a known fault for cars driving start-stop journeys that oil is needing an early top up/ change and that LR are covering it free of charge under warranty at present (but he said this may stop soon). Thought this may be helpful for anyone having the same issue.

Car now booked in for Tuesday to do oil service and 2nd adblue top up. DAB radio has also stopped working which they will look at (although he didnt sound very convincing that he knew how to resolve this!!).

Other than this - love my car! :D

If you use the search function at the top left hand corner and type in "Service Interval" you'll be able to find previous discussions on this topic.

Cheers. I did a quick look earlier but threads seemed to suggest a fault with service interval programming and that service wasn't required. Dealer said differently and that known fault that oil service needed doing earlier. Thought may be useful for people to know that LR are covering this under warranty at present.
