Hi
Looking for winter tyres and alloy wheels for the snow/cold season.
Would 17" oz racing rally racing graphite wheels and 225/65/17 103S BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 All Season look right and perform correctly on such a large car?
We live in County Durham in the countryside and very isolated so once it snows we need a car/wheel that will deal with the harsh conditions.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Can't speak for the DS, as I use my Freelander in the white stuff. Stock 19" wheels are swapped over to 17" in October, currently they are running General Grabber AT2's, but have just ordered a set of Vredestein Wintrac Xtreme S to try out this year...it was a toss-up between those and the Nokian WR-SUV4's, but I got a very good deal on the former from CamSkill, so will try them for a change.

Certainly in last years white-out here, the smaller wheel made a big difference to finding traction, if that's any help?

17" should be fine - don't know about the tyre size but presumably that's the standard size for the car, as detailed on the door plate? I found the standard tyres were pretty good on sheet ice, but that was in nearly new condition. I now have a cheap set of Evoque 18" wheels fitted with Wintracs, and they are absolutely fine.

I put on Michelin Cross Climate, all season tyres onto OE wheels (235/55 R19) last Autumn and they were outstanding in the two big bites of snowy weather we had in North Yorkshire. Cross Climate is a certified "winter tyre" for those countries that mandate them. Perfectly good on dry summer roads now too, a bit more compliant and certainly not as noisy as the factory fit Goodyear Wranglers I had on for the first 42k miles.

I run 17" LR rims with BFG KO2s on them.

Mine are 245/65R17. I know that the LR OEM sizing for the 17" wheels is 225/65 but it actually results in a 4% reduction in width and 2% reduction in diameter over the stock 18" setup. This may make them look a bit small, but just my opinion.

By the way, the BFG K02 are very capable off-road but are a very noisy tyre on the tarmac. Mine have a noticeable rumble between 50-70kph and I only use them when the conditions require them, and have kept my standard 18" wheels and Wranglers for 'normal' driving.

Not all FL2 - some have larger discs that won't accommodate the 16" wheels. Bear in mind too that FL2 wheels don't fit straight onto DS hubs. You need to use spacers as the offset is different.

Hello, anybody know if the 16" rims will fit on the Discovery Sports ? I mean fitting over the discs and calipers.
I am running currently the standard 18" wheels but I need some winter wheels.
I see the Freelanders 2 have them as standard.
Definitely not - there is only a sliver of space with 17" wheels and the front brake calipers.

2 years ago i needed some winter tyres/wheels as we spend 2 months in the Alps each winter. Luckily I bought some second hand 18 inch Evoque wheels fitted with winter tyres for about ÂŁ300. Sprayed the wheels black as we have the black edition and have completed roughly 4000 miles on them! Absolute bargain and would not go to expense of buying new when there are plenty of Evoque rims about-worst case is fit winter tyres or maybe some AT2 if you want to play in the mud as well?

I now have decided to try and get a spacesaver for the long journeys, we have the Alps trip looming so if anyone wants to sell me their space saver- I am interested!
Best Andrew
