Well 2017 my Discovery Sport. I want to update the sat nav! Just been quoted £179.00 for SD card and to program to the vehicle!
Where can I find it cheaper please?

If you have an SD card you go to the website , stick your card in a reader and it will update for a fee , which is a lot less than £179.
Someone with ICT should be along advise soon on how much it is nowadays , used to be £79 ish

I think its nearer £100 and given that its not a very good system anyway I declined. I do get some amusement from it when it recalculates a route and proposes to send me in an endless circle from time to time.

Yes, beware that the SD Card update from Webupdater will not be "up-to-date"

It may surprise you to know that the actual Sat Nav unit and system for InControl Touch (the normal smaller screen) is in fact the very same unit carried over from the face lifted Freelander, and also found in the Disco 4 and early RRS. and was also found in the launch Disco Sports (64 plate)..It was known as InControl Touch Plus, or Gen 2.1, and the only thing differing it from its early to current state is an upgraded LG screen.

The last mapping update on SD card that Navteq (HERE) provided was 2017 for Gen 2.1. If I were in your shoes, I would try ordering a SD card for that older model, and try installing it...chances are it would work without issue. Obviously, if you bought it from a main dealer you could have the luxury of returning it if it didn't work, but until someone tries, you'll never know.

SD cards are tied to the VIn , I played around a bit with mine on the DS opening files etc , only to find when trying to copy and add files there is now. a data Checksum in the data too ,so messing with it wasn't a good idea.
You'd have to copy your existing card to another card ( making sure you take all the hidden files too), then mess about with the copy.
I copied mine to a new SD card then checked it worked in the car before messing with it.

As I only took ownership 3 months ago and I have clear and consistent examples of the Sat Nav providing unusable routes I have referred this to the LR dealer. They assure me after now several days there is nothing they can do. They assure me the software is all 'up to date' and all hardware is working so imply there cannot be a problem. The car is 66 reg and MY17, Could any one please advise what 'up to date' software looks like or basically how I can tell for myself all is 'up to date'?
For me if all is up to date and nothing can be done then the car is suffering a defect, any thoughts on this?
Thanks for any help.

Use the search feature? https://www.discosportforums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=9454&hilit=InControl+touch+versions

InControl Touch is known for sometimes being too literal and diving down a single track road to cut a corner, or use a service road alongside the main road, in both cases because it's quicker those ways if travelling at the posted speed limit. I have found it just needs a bit of common sense and if it suggests something plainly ridiculous then ignore it and it'll sort itself out.

However if you have found something different, please share.

Thanks for reply Dashnine, sounds similar, diverts me off a good B road which has no real alternative, the Nav diverts me onto a private gated farm road which eventually rejoins the B road 2 mile or so further on. To someone unfamiliar with the area looking at the map it could be interpreted as cutting the corner but the route is a private unadapted track which has been this way for at least 30 years.
Another one, when approaching my work address, about one mile before, it sends me into a works car park which is barrier controlled, as soon as I pass the car park entrance it reroutes to the correct address. It's as if the correct info is in there but it prefers to use the wrong info until you ignor it. My problem is of course when in strange areas it becomes totally unreliable.

One thing I do rememberber from setting routes to unknown places , was to remember to select options on screen after adding the address and not just selecting start.
The options let you miss out unpaved roads etc , thinking that still might be there in current ICT.

I have ICTP which also gives similar options too.

So worth checking this before selecting start on the screen, that you've looked at route options before starting guidance.

If going to an unknown area I also fired up the trusty TomTom.

Yes, the ICT system is the same as in the Freelander, albeit with a better GUI.

On entering a destination, it is important to press the route options key before go. This will then plot 3 route options based on the fastest, shortest or greenest. (Ignore the last one unless you have a fascination with your ECO button). On the L359, the red option is fastest, yellow option is shortest, and blue is the aforementioned. Not sure how it is displayed on ICT on the L550, but should imagine that it would be similar.

Really appreciate the replies, thanks. I have had built in sat navs in a number of cars since 2010 and familiar with the fastest, quickest modes which I tried. Regardless of mode my sat as just seems unable to recognise the route and send me onto a gated farm road which is private, or into a private car park on the way to work. I cannot find anyone local, even running basic and old Tom toms who have the problem with the gated farm road. Just seems to be unique to my DS. I had a 18 reg Evoque on loan and it had no problem selecting the correct routes in the areas mentioned above.
Following Dashnine's advice I took a look at the Incontrol software and I am sure it is still the 2016 version and the map updates are showing the 2017 is available.
Has anyone out there experienced the Incontrol and map updates installed and making any difference?

Important update!
After a couple more visits to the dealer and me being persistent, I have a result. The ICT system has been upgraded to the October 2017 version, I believe 3.4. The navigation has also been updated via SD card (I think) but the navigation software details have definitely changed. What maters is I have spent a couple of hours now programming routes which it had previously diverted me of highway onto farm tracks and now I cannot find fault. It certainly looks like whatever the weaknesses in the MY16 and MY17 navigation are there can be very significant improvements made by updating both ICT and navigation software. Happy to provide further details if needed.
