Hi all,

New here and new Discovery Sport (2016) owner. I recently bought the car from a dealership (not LR). Within 4 days the engine management light came on. I had my BIL use his fault code reader and it flagged up these 2 faults.

Dealership got it into a local LR specialist. They are changing the solenoid. They are also changing the EGR filter. I did ask if there was/is any chance the DPF is cracked. He said there is no way to tell at the moment. He said that if the brick is cracked the light would come back on within 4 or 5 weeks and we would know.

Is there really no way to test this? I am just concerned that if the DPF is knackered by the time that light comes back on the months warranty will be gone.

Cheers for any advice.

I believe that as there is a possibility that it's failed at this stage, then the warranty stands. Time to diagnose is irrelevant. It's when the fault makes itself known that matters.
May be worth sending an email to the supplier stating that you won't know for several weeks but if the DPF has indeed failed, they will be responsible for the cost.

You might want to check out these short YouTube videos by Jimmy O'Riley on the P049B-00 code, which point to a cracked DPF as being the cause.

You don't mention the mileage, but as the JLR DPF units are not known for their longevity (can often be as low as 25k miles, according to Jimmy), if a 2016 vehicle hasn't already had at least one new DPF fitted, it will likely want one now.

Thanks all. Mileage is at 96k. Just got it back from the garage now.

It is important to be clear - the garage it has gone into to be repaired is in no way connected to the dealership I bought the car from. The dealership from me are like 3 hours away, so they found an independent LR specialist for me.

Anyway - the owner of the garage, I spoke to him when I picked it up. They changed the solenoid for the piston cooling and then changed a filter for the erg. He said the filter was very sooty. He said it was not necessarily a sign the dpf was cracked, but if it is then within a few weeks the light will be back on.

I spoke to the dealership - they have just said to contact them again should a light come on
