I had the same message a couple of times on my Jaguar XJL 2015 - replaced the battery myself and drove for about an hour.. the message didn't show up since then. Let's hope it stays that way atleast for a while

thanks for your input -
seems a very weak point on the Discos - many owners suffering or had suffered.
sometimes the issue goes away and sometimes it has various different fixes from SW upgrades to pumping up a tyre.

ill leave you know how i get on when i get my analysed - bloody expensive mind! ÂŁ180 odd just for the diag. !

we also have a VW Touraeg...... VW charge..... wait for it ÂŁ60 for diag. *** LR are way over shooting their prices***

Ok so LR had my 2016 sport in this morning.
Diagnostic found no issues apart the need to have the battery code/management reset as it wasnt complete when I replaced the battery myself.
Let's see how it goes. ..

2016 with 77,000 miles - Low battery message started about 6 months ago. The longer I DON'T drive it, the more frequent it comes up. Always starts. The on/off stopped working about 2 years ago.

More recently, I started it up with the message and drove it 700 miles in two days. No message in the AM (after 350 miles), no messages when turning off to gas up. The display did shut off/restart 200 miles in. I have never seen that before.

I purchased a H7 AMG battery (called the LR Dealership and asked for battery type), then stopped a local O'Reilly's. No batteries came up for my DS. I told them that the dealership said it was an H7 AMG, then they were like, 'okay, let me get our equivalent'

I asked to look up the Range Rover Evoque, read somewhere that this was the same battery type, sure enough, they did have the batter for the Evoque, and it was an H7 AMG, they showed me the screen. I purchased it ($210) but have not put it on yet. I will wait a few more days and continue testing, see if the message comes up as my driving will be limited the next couple of weeks.

I'll circle back with an update as the days go buy.

I had this message since the start of the year after a trip away for 4 weeks. It never really went away even with long trips of 400km. I have only used my car once or twice a week during the past few months. Last week I went to use it and the doors wouldn't unlock with the fob. The car was completely dead. The AA came and put his battery on to jump it, still nothing. He ended up disconnecting the negative terminal and reconnecting it after a few seconds. The car came to life with the alarm going and it started up fine. I've only driven it 3-4 times since then (after an initial 30minute drive in hopes to charge the battery) and it has started with no problem and the low battery warning hasn't come up. I will see how it goes, I actually organised an appointment for Monday to have the battery looked at - presuming it needed replacing or something. I might cancel that and just ride it out and see if the low battery warning comes up again.

So the low battery problem came up again. I took the car in to the workshop, they tested the battery level and it was low. Then they did a software upgrade and immediately the battery reported higher so they charged it up and then left it a couple of days to test the level again. The level didn't change much so I've picked it back up. Stop start seems to be working correctly. Fingers crossed.

On my motorbikes I just connect a trickle charger across the battery or thru one of the accessory power outlets with the battery in situ. So on the Discovery can I just connect a charger to the same points recommended for jump starting i.e. +ve and one of the engine bolts?

It is good practice to trickle-charge your battery at least once a month, irrespective of how regularly the vehicle is used.
Unfortunately I don't have that possibility at my current house. I've also never had to do that with any previous cars, but I would do it with this one if I could just to be safe.

Our Disco Sport is a 2016MY HSE Black - we've had it from new since December 2015. No problems until June 2019 when we first saw the "Low Battery, Please Start engine warning" after not using the car for a few days. NB The car had received a PCM update (N273) on May 24 2019 as part of a recall and the problems happened soon after that.

The car is subject to a Land Rover extended warranty; however the battery is treated as a consumable and is normally excluded unless damaged as a result of an underlying fault.

It went back to our local Land Rover dealer at Yeovil three times last year for this same fault:

- 30 July 2019 - taken in: Investigate low battery message. Carried out battery drain and regeneration. No fault found - all working as expected.

- 30 August 2019 - 42K 2nd service. Investigated continued battery low issue. Carried out deep regeneration tests. Tested battery - failed test. Replaced and reprogrammed battery - we had to pay ÂŁ350 as it was excluded from the warranty. (which was not refunded when the underlying fault was later discovered)

- 17 September 2019. We continued to get the low battery warning - this was investigated and a drain was detected from the instrument panel. Battery failed and was replaced - this time under warranty.

We've been OK since then, until July this year when we got the warning again. This time the battery was completely flat (after only 6 days non-use), and we had to get the AA to start it. Given our experience last year this looks like a recurrence of the same fault. Land Rover have agreed to replace the battery this time, but we are losing confidence with the car and with Land Rover.

I strongly suspect that there is a systemic fault somewhere in the electrical system which is draining the battery, and given how widespread this issue has been for members of this forum, I wonder if there's any enthusiasm to make a joint approach to Land Rover to ask them to investigate this properly?

Just an update on this subject. I took delivery for the 2020 new DS SE P200 today and the car broken down just under 2hrs after driving for 20miles town driving with the low battery red light and charge warning red light. Is going back to JLR tomorrow and I'm not impress this had happen on a brand new vehicle and didn't even make it pass the first day.

6 month old 2020 P250 DS and already have a problem with the battery going flat.

Wouldn't start today, LR Assist claims he has never seen such a problem before so it's back to the dealers next week.

So its looks like I'm victim to dreaded battery fault. Have a MY18 and it only went in for first service 2-months ago and since then car has been on some long runs including to Devon and back from Hertfordshire and then Red Warning light saying battery low start engine message came up which was perplexing ? Took it for a long run and still message persisted. Today used a CTEK MX7.0 charger which cycled through its diagnosis / programme cycle and started charging taking battery up to fully charged, disconnected and bang error message still there :( Came onto forums and see this long thread where others have been experiencing same issue. Also having now read these posts I realise / have become aware that I can't remember last time that stop start kicked in ! Will be calling LR assistance and pushing to get car seen at dealers and 'hopefully' resolved either new battery , software update or preferably both , will then make sure I trickle charge battery every month but like others confidence in car has been severely dented. Had whining balance shaft issue previously which at that time ended in me having the WHOLE engine replaced !

Seeing as how my car isn't being driven as much due to Covid I've bought a CTEK MXS 5.0 charger.

Used it overnight using the croc clips, initial reading was 3 lights, now on 7 as it should be.

There's the option with the CTEK MXS 5.0 to permanently connect to the vehicle using the M8 eyelets.

Having looked at how to attach them, the earthing point is hard for me to reach, especially with my arthritic hands and I don't want to undo it and have a nut underneath drop off into goodness konws where.

What have those of you with these units done?
