CritAir sticker in France

Post by pierre19 » Tue Aug 07, 2018 10:15 am

Hi all,

For all those peeps going to France, did you know that you have to have a CritAir sticker, or you face a fine of upto £117.00, I didn't until Sunday.

Here's a link to the official site .......

https://www.certificat-air.gouv.fr/en/

It costs Euro 4.21 including postage, don't get ripped off on bogus sites .....

Cheers

Pete

Can’t see a list of cities or areas it’s mandatory in. Is there one ?

As far as I am aware, it only applies to Central Paris, unless it's changed since last year? It's their version of our ULEZ in London.

Here’s a link that gives a reasonable summary.

Chippy has linked a useful site with go information, BUT DO NOT BUY it from them ...... they are charging E29.95 and it is only E4.21 from the site I linked .....

More areas are being listed all the time .... and it's not just cities ..... all of the Vendee is not an area ....

Thanks Pete. I wouldn’t have anyway but thanks for the warning.

I heard on our news that with the current heat wave in France the police are intensifying their checks so take care.

Good job Calais doesn’t impose this or it would have caught out thousands no doubt. My trip was Calais to Brittany so not included in this.

OK.

So the French emission sticker locations have now been widened (I only found out 3 weeks before our trip to the South of France which we are just back from). There are two types of areas it applies two (permanent and temporary). Permanent are certain city centre (but not normally the ring road) such as Paris or Lyon. Temporary areas are climate based and having just come back from the Landres there were a number of reduced speed limits on motorways because of the heat causing higher pollution levels.

As said go direct to the French website and put in your car details. From other forums lots of people struggle with the data limit on the upload. All you need to scan and upload is the page 2 of the UK V5 as long as it shows the VRN, VIN and Euro emission category. On mine I just took a digital picture of the page and the resized for internet publishing and it was well under the limit. Note you can only pay by VISA. After about 2 days you will get an email back with a printable pdf certificate and if you need you can travel with this and when stopped by the police this will cover you. The actual sticker takes about 3 weeks to arrive in the post.

It is really easy and quick.

Incidentally as Chippy says you also need an emissions sticker to go into many German cities. For German residents they are €5 but can be very hard to get otherwise without banging heads against brick walls if your car isn't Germany registered. However, www.tolltickets.com does them for €9 and all sorts of other emission stickers/toll boxes etc.

Top tip - don't put the sticker in the windscreen until needed in case you have to replace the windscreen as you'll need to buy a new sticker??
