Gerry McGovern circa 1997

Post by Badgerface » Thu Jun 14, 2018 3:38 pm

For those of you who haven't seen this photograph and need cheering up on a Thursday afternoon, here is our illustrious leader of design and technology pictured at Gaydon not long after the launch of the Freelander.

I wonder if he was a fan of Queen back in the day? Not a cravat in sight then either!!

Well, that’s made my day Badgerface. Have you any idea what was wrong with his left arm? I was wondering whether it was perhaps the strain of wearing such a heavy watch :o

Nothing changes Chippy. In his video interview last year regarding the Velar, he had an ostentatious Patek Phillipe on his wrist that he just HAD to make sure was in shot of the camera filming. Tum te tum....

More Gary Cherone from Extreme for me than Brian May.

I think I read somewhere that he collects such trivia. Presumably there is nothing else left for him to spend his hard earned (???) cash on.

:D :D :D :D

Classic Fawlty Towers line when Cybill is on the phone to Audrey in the very first episode when Cybill says " I said pretentious...moi?" comes to mind.

BFG I’ve come to the conclusion that you’re the top man on here as far as FT is concerned. :D

Chippy,

The thing is the writing was just so perfect and covered most social situations and people you meet every day; it was afterall written to reflect the people who they had met in real life.

It's better than describing the picture as Brian May meets Kevin Webster (as this is insulting to Brian May and the actor Micheal le Vell)

A few years ago I was organising a dinner party and talking to the chef, who's IQ was not the strongest (sadly neither were his cooking skills). So we discuss the menu and I suggest a lemon tart for dessert. I casually ask the question "is it really tart?" (as in bitter/sour so that I could balance it with a sweet pudding wine). His reply (in a very dour Brummy accent)* was "no, Sir, it 's more of a flan....). At which point I had to leave the kitchen and my friend Peter said, what's wrong? All I had to say was that we had run out of Waldorf's and he realised I had been speaking with the "chef".

Classic

* No offence/slur intended against a Brum accent - dour is being used as a factual noun :!:

I'm pretty sure that's the bloke who had a string of hits including (but not limited to), "Holding Back The Years", "Money's Too Tight (To Mention)", and "Something Got Me Started".
