It’s absolutely astonishing when one reads such articles as to how wide reaching a seemingly simple decision can be.

Will there still be a UK based automotive industry in say 10/15 years?

I’m getting fed up of all these folks saying what will happen after Brexit when NOTHING has been decided yet .
Bunch of scaremongers.

Agreed Barnsh.
Personally, I am optimistically bullish about it - there is a whole world out there after all!

Some of our so-called leaders and their stooges should be in the bloody Tower for treason, given how they are determined to defy the will of the people!

Yep Badgerface , we managed just fine before we joined the EU common policies.
Big wide world ...here we come I say.

I did laugh at that MP (SNP) today who said “ we as MPs need to visit all our constituents that voted leave and explain to them why they were wrong” democracy at its best .

Anyway ...back on topic .
I can’t see Eu ignoring Uk standards of safety as it simply wont import them if they are not up to standard. And they same will be applied to UK cars exported.

Our EU6 diesels go to and are built in China, we don’t make special cars for special countries, it wouldn’t make financial sence.

Then of course Ford strip out standard safety items when selling to Australia as Australian import standards are not the same as UK or EU.

As I read it the article is saying that the UK will basically end up adopting decisions made by others without being in a position to greatly influence them.

It may be that the UK manufacturers don’t make special cars for special countries but perhaps they need to take a leaf out of other manufacturers books who do. A look at what the likes of Ford, Chrysler, BMW, VW, Mercedes, etc. sell only in China would be enough.

And it most definitely does make (big) financial sense for them to do so.

The only thing they seem to do with safety is remove it for out of EU countries , not sure that’s a good idea . Making standard safety an option isn’t good.
All this guff of not being in a position to influence .....where do they get that from ....the best influencers in the world are not all in the EU.

JCB, Dyson and many others are happy , just seems the SMMT and other anti Brexit folk are fear mongering.
NCAP is accepted in many countries outside EU .

And why did JLR keep flogging the 2.2 EU5 engine to Australia long after the so called cleaner EU6 ingenium was available . Is it ever ok to poison countries outside EU but not in it?

I’ve said on here before it’s best to keep politics and things of a political nature off here and it seems I wasn’t far wrong.

If my opinions are worth nothing then there’s no point in me contributing further to this topic so I won’t.

Opinions are always welcome chippy , but as with life opinions will differ.
As long as people are civil as with other politics is not a bad topic.
