Mercedes GLC emissions cheating

Post by qubito » Mon Jun 11, 2018 7:16 pm

Another German company caught cheating. Now includes the GLC! https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/business-44444361

Hopefully full recall in the UK will be announced soon.

Wider question should be whether buyers should have the right to return the vehicle with a full refund and compensation. Both EU and UK have been very soft on the German companies unlike the US.

Very happy that I stuck with my DS.

They were are all at it in some way shape or form.

I guess the DS might have had one scheduled , then hastily withdrawn to leave a useless DPF system behind.

True. It is quite interesting to see the new co2 figure for the ingenium engines following the WLTP tests.

240hp si4 engine (7seats) now at 202g.

But they all blame Bosch .....or try to.

Interesting article on the ECU developed by Bosch that caused the emmisions scandal
See here
https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/indu ... dy-alleges

Affected engines are fitted with Bosch’s EDC17 ECU, which the study says was programmed with the defeat software.

“Notably, we find strong evidence that both defeat devices were created by Bosch and then enabled by Volkswagen and Fiat for their respective vehicles,” the report says, although only the Fiat 500X SUV is implicated.

Similar allegations were made against Bosch last year, when a lawsuit filed by representatives of affected vehicles in the US accused the supply giant of being a “knowing and active participant” in the emissions manipulation. Bosch responded by saying that it is not responsible for how a manufacturer uses its components.

But then google “EDC17 ECU. Land Rover ” I did this just out of curiosity...

And there we have the infamous TDV6 and the Freelander 2.2 and Jaguar XF all fitted with these ECU.

Are Landrover saying they never implemented the cheat part of program that every other car company that used this ECU did ??

Quite technical but it shows the ECU and how Tests were detected.

It was just a matter of time before they were caught out. Perhaps JLR should be glad they’re not a German manufacturer!

£50,000 per vehicle!

I vote that the UK government are awarded first prize in the competition to find new ways to fill the coffers.

The German transport minister has threatened Mercedes with €5000 per vehicle which, if I recall, is the figure laid down by the EU commission.

I think the biggest disappointment in all of this is the fact that all of the German manufacturers have had to pay heavy fines in the US including compensating owners but none so far in the UK and EU.

They have also been found to be colluding with regards to dealing with supply chains and the release of car models, tech etc. to reduce competition.

They have basically got away with it and continue to get away with it. This is despite the EU being all about rules and regulations. They have basically said that in Europe there is no law against which they can be fined.

We are also probably still at the tip of the iceberg even after 10years of this coming to light.

Meanwhile JLR continue to try to compete albeit with poorer quality control. Looking forward to see what happens with the new iPace. It’s an interesting direction for the company. Less chance to ‘cheat’ with EV technology. :D
