Any idea what had caused this?

Post by Matty779blue » Wed Dec 04, 2019 4:13 pm

Hi all

Opened the bonnet today to refill washer fluid and I noticed the crystallisation on the underside of the bonnet. This is clearly a liquid which has crystallised but what liquid and where has it come from?

Could it be def fluid splashed from a long time ago?
Only possible if you have the 2.0 ingenium diesel.

Urea crystals are colourless and the filling point is at the back of the bonnet soundproofing not the front edge so that seems unlikely.

Is it 'crystals' or is it some kind of mould?

To prove your hypothesis see if it dissolves in warm water you may find its an insoluble mineral.

Looks like dried out moss? Could have been parked somewhere damp for a bit then dried out, cure would be clean it off with stinky jays fluid then coat the seal with gumi pflege.or silicon spray.
As it’s at the front did it have a bust radiator at some time ??

Hi all. Thanks for the replies.
It is 100% a crystal build up. Under the yellow crystals are white crystals. It’s done 20k miles on a 17plate and no rad leak.

I did spill a lot of ad blue a few months ago and cleaned it up as best I could incl using a bit of water to wash some of it off where it dried so fast.

The nossel snapped when filling up!
