Rear demister

Post by Iansds » Wed Dec 04, 2019 9:09 am

Hi there.

Just purchased a 15 plate DS HSE lux. Love the car, but having owned it for a month have discovered it has a few issues. Adaptive cruise doesn't work. AEB doesn't work, both these are ticked in the menu but not active. Any pointers?

The rear screen demister doesn't work. The dash switch lights up, the relay clicks but nothing happens on the rear screen. Any pointers?

All help be greatly appreciated.

Not sure a 15 plate would have adaptive cruise control, and just about the only way you'd know AEB wasn't working if you crashed into the back of something.

The AEB warning is very late (as maximum ABS enabled braking would be activated) and although I've heard a few beeps over 4 years I've reacted or my nerve broke before the car responded. Driving towards a parked car is a way to test it (making sure you swerve and don't hit said parked car...).

There are cameras in the windscreen and the drop down menu has the option to tick or untick both features which has me thinking these 2 features were fitted, hence my wondering why not working.

Adaptive cruise control works via radar, not cameras and wasn’t available until later, can you photo the menu?

AEB - how do you know it’s not working then?

The cameras are for lane assist and auto high beam, on later models they also read sold speed signs

Adaptive cruise is radar based.

Forward alert is camera based but Adaptive Cruise isn’t.

There's no cruise control mentioned, these functions all use the cameras at the top of the windscreen:

Forward Alert - tells you you're going to hit something (works between 18 and 50mph), applies the brakes lightly and goes to full Advanced Emergency Brake Assist when the driver presses the brake pedal. AEBA also works if the driver hits the brake pedal quickly, applying full braking force immediately.

AEB - Automated Emergency Braking - applies the brakes if you're going to hit something (works between 3 and 50mph). Several cardboard boxes and blow up crocodiles have died trying to test this, belief is that it's programmed to respond to vehicle outline / images.

Lane Departure - Vibrates the steering wheel if you veer over a lane marking, sensitivity is not how hard it vibrates but when set at normal sensitivity, the system suppresses any warnings if driver intervention is detected via the signals listed below:

Accelerator pedal movement
Significant steering wheel angle change
Brake pressure
Turn signal indicator activation.

When set at high sensitivity, the system will not suppress any warnings when intervention is detected, unless the appropriate
direction indicator is activated.

Auto High Beam - dips the high beam headlights when lights detected oncoming or (tail lights) in front of you.

Other camera based options:

Traffic Sign Recognition was optional or standard on some models - displays the traffic sign in the instrument panel.

Lan Keep Assist is/was optional and nudges the vehicle back into the lane.
