Land Rover Battery Charger

Post by worrasf » Fri Oct 11, 2019 11:12 am

I am considering getting a Land Rover (CTEK) battery charger for the winter as the car will be laid up for several weeks.

The model recommended seems to be VPLVV0077.

I know that there is a specific wiring kit available (LAF0124_1E) from battery/chassis earth to a socket in the engine bay that this unit is plugged into.

The dealer I am thinking of buying from however informs me that this charger can be plugged directly into the onboard 12 volt power socket without having to have the wiring kit installed. I am a bit sceptical about this advice given the sensitive electronic etc.

Anyone have any experience of this please before I make a mistake?

Thanks

Steve

Just answered my own question - none of the internal 12v sockets are permanently live ;)

Why not just get the CTEK itself? The MXS 5.0 charges AGM batteries (as used for start stop) and costs a lot less

What he said, I’ve got that fitted to my DS with the comfort connector, simple plugin and let it do it’s thing.

Bought from these people, excellent service

Land Rover Battery Charger

I’ve already got a CTEK stop/start and comfort connector for the DS - I was going to swap it to use with the XKR during the winter and use the CTEK currently on the Jag to the Eunos hence looking to get another charger for the DS and the one I was looking at was a good price. I’ll just get another CTEK for the Eunos instead.

Personally I’d use one charger and swap over every week, 1 week on 2 weeks off is perfect for battery maintenance, and then you’d only have to buy a comfort connector for the other cars, I believe the JLR charger is a ctek branded to be able to charge loads of money

Yes, that's the most cost-efficient way and certainly doable.

I guess I'm just a bit lazy. The Jag is already fully winterised and because my garage space will only accommodate the Eunos it has to stay outside under a Stormforce Monsoon car cover which is a real PITA to "open up" to get to the boot/battery.

As a nod to frugality ;) I've bought another comforter cable/connector for the Eunos so I can swap the CTEK stop/start between it and the DS (which also has to live outside :o )
