Going back to the side steps, when I was loaned a different Discovery Sport for a day a few weeks ago while mine was in the dealership, they gave me one which had side steps fitted and every time I got out of the drivers seat, I kept rubbing the back of my legs/trousers on the edge of the step as I put my foot down to the ground. When I got home I had dirty marks on the back of my trouser legs as a result.

I wonder, is that just me not being used to the steps being there or is it a general 'thing' that other people experience? I ask because I was thinking of fitting some to help reach the roof box when I have it mounted.

I think you will find it’s as you say, you are not used to having them.

I always use the steps for getting in and out so don’t suffer with that. Also using the steps and sitting in properly, stops you crushing the seat bolster getting in and out.

Mine came with the LR steps and I think they compliment its looks, but would not have purchased them as an accessory.
Whether you use them to get in or out depends on your seat height, your height, agility etc, the car is not exactly an american beast where step ladders are the norm. I only use mine for washing the roof, if I used them to get in I'd have to bend double to clear the top of the door entrance and yes I do squash the seat bolster unfortunately, it's how my FL2 bolster creased and tore.

Out for a wee run this afternoon. Not a soul about. Second photo is actually a duck house in Loch Shin, Lairg, Sutherland.

Nearby Falls of Shin visitor centre. The one Al Fayed used to own, went in fire and he gifted to the community. Bit crispy there this afternoon at minus 2C.

Had to laugh, it was on STV Highlands news tonight that the school kids on Fair Isle are taking a 25 min flight to Shetland for a weekly swimming lesson. It could only happen in the Highlands.

I know of remote island schools that fly in a teacher daily, never heard of swimming lessons mind you.

Must be a real pleasure to drive your D5 on those empty roads, not long though till all of us visitors arrive again to spoil it.
Certainly an expensive swimming lesson, but quite exciting for the kids.

Yes, it’s nice when the roads are empty. They will be that way until Easter time. I recall driving up to Durness (most top left of the UK) last year and I travelled over 100 miles without seeing another car in either direction or anyone about. It was a bit like one of those films where everyone had disappeared.

Yes, swimming lessons will be a bit expensive, no doubt they get a school discount. Some of these flights are more expensive than taking a holiday to Spain. Inverness to Stornaway return is about £250.

Quite fancy doing the Harris to St. Kilda boat trip this year. It’s a full day thing, 50 miles each way, but it’s £215 per adult and £195 per child, so that’s over £1k for the 5 of us.

Here a photo, not mine I hasten to add.
