Oh dear, one of my mates at work has just chopped in his 2016 Audi RS6 for a fully-loaded XC90 hybrid.

Pretty sure he charges his inside his garage - better tell him to leave it on the drive!!

I guess it doesn’t help the family involved but it’s not the first time it’s happened and it won’t be the last. The battery systems are simply a potential hazard. Our son-in-law flys as captain on LH Cargo 777 and the only time he ever HAS to be informed what he is transporting other than live animals is Lithium batteries no matter how small.

If I ever bought a battery vehicle I’d be sure to keep it well away from the building during charging.

Oh and the golf cart thing on the Volvo forum caused a big discussion at our club and now you need an extra insurance even if you want to store your cart/battery in the locker room.

Rotten luck for the owner and family. Quite a nasty experience.
Will now tell my son, who’s planning to change his XC90 inscription for a hybrid when he’s confident with the technology. (Guess he wouldn’t need to specify smoked glass!)

Bet it will get blamed on the owner, most likely 'plugging in style' - and it well could be a dodgy connection if the cable plugs into the front of the car.

Looks more like an engine bay fire than lithium batteries ....the batteries on the XC90 are under the floor in the tunnel , not under the bonnet !

Or his charging lead connector which looks burnt round there on the photos from the fire brigade.
Either way not good , but the daily mail does like a bit of drama.

yep plug is in front wing - batteries in transmission tunnel tho so looks like an engine fire (had one of those 30+ years ago in my first car, a Renault 5 - driving down the road like the Red Arrows, pull in jump out and watch it burn!)
