Isn't the iPace the cheaper affordable one?
The news as per usual have it wrong saying it's an electric 'version' of the XJ, it's a new model XJ meant to rival the bigger Teslas I guess. Given how many I see of those I see around here it's a market worth aiming at.
Today is the last day of production of the 'old' XJ, it's only selling a few hundred a year now. The new XJ will also form the basis of the 'Road Rover' (they'll probably change the name), an electric, road biased Range Rover (bit like Jag have gone to SUV, but the other way)
And given the cost of building an electric car, it's easier to sell an expensive car than a cheaper car. Years ago Ford said it didn't cost much more to build a Granada than a Fiesta (I think they ran down the same line). The extra cost for the 'expensive' car is better materials and the development cost amortised over fewer cars.
Final thought - it does worry me when the news feature something you know something about, and they get it wrong. Exactly what else are they getting wrong?
