LED reversing

Post by ccomley » Tue Mar 13, 2018 11:48 am

Might brighter - can see now even when brake lights not on. BUT - LED units I put in are too tall and can't fully re-egage the bulb holder in its nook.

Can anyone suggest a pair of bulbs which (a) work and (b) *Fit* properly?

Cheers.

Be careful as anything over a certain (very low) brightness is an MOT failure and offence if (you are very unlucky) get caught be the girls and boys in blue.

I got some from Ebay described thus:-
2x-955-921-T15-194-W16W-CREE-LED-Bulb-Sidelight-Tail-Backup-Reverse-Light-White

I can't give you the link because its no longer active. They are usefully brighter than standard and well within the maximum wattage allowed as I understand it. I suppose its completely beyond the law to be able to specify the actual brightness scientifically but I dare say that they will fall back on making anything not approved by the manufacturer illegal!

Why would the law stop and check your reversing lights in the first place. They are only an aid, and not an MOT fail item, as of 2015 road reg's wattage for revering lights have 'No Regulatory Requirement'. Nor is there a positioning requirement.

Noted but given the shape of the unit, very little lights gets out even with brighter bulbs!!

(Especially with the one that has failed to stay wedged in place and is now lighting up the inside hence the thread...)

I would suggest that anyone who wants to make this modification to simply order the LED reversing lamp that is currently fitted to the Jaguar XF or RRS as standard. It's that simple.
