New Petrol or Diesel?

Post by PedroT » Mon Jul 08, 2019 3:43 pm

Time approaching to go for a replacement DS, to choose Petrol or Diesel that is the question! DPF’s and the obligatory regenerations are all bad news, making the petrol engine sound a simpler package.
I do tow and diesel has been good for this work and also not bad on fuel economy, but I am still attracted to the idea of moving over to petrol. I’d like to hear from Towers who have petrol engines and how do they rate them. Next point whether to go for facelift model or try for a deal on run out model?

Don’t tow, so don’t have an opinion on towing with my petrol DS. I guess it depends on what’s under the new DS, i.e. the exhaust configuration.

If you could get an old model petrol at a good deal it may be worth it, otherwise wait for the new model diesel (subject to the above).

I tow a 1600kg caravan with a 240 petrol.

It tows well, at least as well as my previous Diesel Evoque but don't expect many mpg. I used to get mid 20s towing with the Evoque but less than 20 in the DS. WIthout the van on I only get big 20s or 30 on a good day.

I'm pleased with my decision and would make the same choice again.

No data for the 240HP diesel but it emerged today that the "refreshed" 180HP will have the same regeneration issues as the 2019 model during "normal" driving - assuming that it follows suit with the new Evoque. The DS parts diagrams are expected to confirm this when they are released in a couple of months.

You diagram doesn’t appear to be the new exhaust system. That is for the older AJ200D not the new AJ200 LF DSL MD NFE HARN. This can be seen in the bottom right hand corner along with the 2018 date.

Good points. But I asked to be shown the exhaust system for the "new" 2019 L551 and what I reproduced here is what came off the printer. Feel free to prove that they made a mistake because this is important information for potential diesel buyers.

Incidentally, from wiki
Second generation (L551; 2018-present)

The second generation Evoque was revealed at an event in London on 22 November 2018.
