How to wire the cables from engine room to cabin?

Post by Yamashita-san » Wed Apr 10, 2019 7:20 am

Does someone know the route from engine room to cabin to wire the cables?
I would like to wire the cables from engine room to cabin to attach the CTEK Battery indicator.
If someone know where the good connection hole around the right side ahead of the cabin (because my DS is right hand wheel), please let me know.
If photos, it will be very helpful.

Thank you in advance!

Hi,
First off why do you need a Battery Monitor, as the car already has it's own and you might interfere with it. Your battery is located on the left and there is a a large grommet on the left where the main loom goes through the front bulkhead to the main fuse box behind the glove box, try there. You could always use use a piggy back on a fuse that has a pre ignition switch supply (side lights?). Be careful that it doesn't interfere with any warranty you may have.

Just a word of warning re the grommet on the bulkhead as mentioned above:
That’s where Tracker Network UK tried to get through to add cables , the grommet is not rubber it is a very hard plastic. Because of this they managed to stab the loom and thus completely disable my first DS on day of collection. ( it was then rejected)

This is the main canbus loom so be very careful if you try that way.

I looked for an easy way to run wires from the engine compartment to the cabin - and didn't find one! You can't go through the main wiring loom with the rest of the wires because it's moulded on and has a 90 degree bend in it. So, in the end I made two new holes in the outer skirt of the wiring loom grommet for my wires.

Wire it to the terminal in the boot which is the plug in point for towbar electrics. This is what I did with my ctek connector.
There’s a thread on it from 2 years ago if you do a search

If you need it at the front of the cabin then just extend the wires and route them via the tread plates etc

Hi, PaulCP
i am interested in your method and I would like to do the same.
Please tell me more detail info for the 1st picture.
Do I need to modify the CTEK comfort cable to inset the cable to the gray socket (for towing power)?

If you haven’t yet purchased the battery indicator what about this, no need for wires just download the app

Yes, you will need to cut off the ring connector on the positive (red) lead and replace it with a female spade terminal.
Make sure you connect to the male spade connector in the grey plug which is a permanent live if you want to use the ctek connector to charge through.

I didn't know that device. I'll check it out.

Hi, PaulCP

I installed the CTEK (56-531) Comfort Indicator Panel along with your advice.
It works correctly now.
Thank you for your advice!
