Never towed with the DS but did with 2 RRS and never knew the van was attached until I had to fill up with diesel

Once pulled a very big motorhome off a very soft and wet CL with out leaving any evidence myself although the motorhome owner wasn't very popular with the farmer

I sold my last van 2 years ago and still miss it so please stop tempting me with caravan pics or you'll get me in trouble - swmbo hates them because "they're such hard work" - never understood how sleeping in passenger seat all way to site, waiting in heated car for me to level van, get heating going and fill tanks then sitting cosy in van while I was erecting awning in a gale was hard work though
Perhaps she was just thinking of you? :D

So I had my first real trip with the caravan in tow last weekend. Things went pretty well, and the DS is indeed a capable tug. However, I could definitely feel the difference in driving behaviour as the DS was more sluggish and bouncy, and cruise control didn't cope very well with the extra weight as it would slow down about 3 km/h as it hit a hill, then realise and change down a couple of gears and accelerate about 2 km/h over the set speed just as we reached the top of the hill

Fuel consumption on the 500 km round trip cruising at 100 km/h was 11.4 L/100km on the way out and 13 on the way back - head wind on the way back perhaps?? Wasn't able to get your fuel economy Chippy, but then I was going about 10 km/h faster which would make a difference.

Only real pain was the towing mirror. Picked up a cheap one at the autoparts store and it didn't attach to the curvy DS mirror very well, and kept on slipping off, so I was driving with my arm out the window trying to re-attach it :o Took it off in the end and finished the journey without it. So, any suggestions of a good one that fits the DS mirror welcome.

Oh.... and the caravan performed very well too, so I'm looking forward to many more adventures.

Mamil, I use the Milenco mirrors they fit very well and are secure. You can also get parts for them if you do manage to break something. I do use little bits of very thin foam so I don't mark the mirror housing.

I've had a look and found this Australian websitehttp://www.dometicrvcentre.com.au/onlin ... -aero-pair which has them. The company appear to be authorised Milenco dealers http://www.milenco.com/country/dometic-australia

Agree entirely, Milenco are the ones I use. Excellent piece of kit. I use the Grand Aero 3. The latest ones now have rubber covered clamps to prevent marking the mirror housing.

Sounds good Mamil. I use Milenco as well but put some anti slip matting between the clamp and the mirror housing. It works a treat.
