Dorset Newbie

Post by rosec2 » Tue Jan 08, 2019 12:49 pm

Hello from me.

Eagerly awaiting Saturday when I'll be picking up my Disco Sport, it's an 18 plate HSE Dynamic Luxury model. Haven't had a Disco for a while, the previous one was T reg Disco 2. I'm currently driving Sportage which I love but decided that my frequent visits to the M3 carpark mean it's time for an upgrade (and an auto box!)

I'm kind of wishing I hadn't read some of the threads on here but I'm hoping it's a bit like Trip Advisor where the problems get more publicity!

Rose.

Welcome Rose.

I have had my DS (first LR product) for 18 months now and love the car. I have no issues with it whatsoever except for the early oil change at 11,000 miles but I was aware of the problem before I ordered the car. I presume from your comments that you are also aware of the problem.

How long have you had to wait for the car from ordering? Just wondered.

Hi Dave,

Firstly thanks for the reassurance that you still love your DS! Phew!
Mine is a used vehicle (8k miles on it) so bought last Saturday, collecting next!

I was aware that there had been some issues with the oil but starting on the forum by reading that thread was a little scary! However, I do pretty high mileage with few short journeys so hopefully that'll help.

I think this might be the longest week ever!

Rose.

Hi Rose
As it stands at the moment I plan to have another in 18 months time so very happy with the car. My oil change was covered by the dealer so I am not out of pocket. If you do fairly high mileage you shouldn't be too affected.

Make sure you post up some photos when you have picked it up next weekend! Good luck!

Just a thought. Might be worth checking when it will need an oil service when you pick it up as if it has been doing short runs it may need one in a 1,000 miles or so. If it does I would defo be making sure the dealer covers it.

Good point. I would insist that an oil change is done prior to handover....ring your salesman, sorry, order taker and follow the above advice. It will buy you a few months peace of mind.

Welcome, by the way. Plenty of useful information on here, good, bad and ugly.

Hi Rose and welcome. I’m sure you’ll love your new motor.

Unlike you, I wasn’t aware of the oil dilution/early service issue before I bought, but I’ve found it to be no big deal; I’ve had 2 interim oil changes in 21 months and the “Millers oils” test reports (useful tip from helpful forum members) came back with reassuring figures.
I must say I’m loving the vehicle, particularly in the areas of comfort and practicality, and it still puts a smile on my face,

Coincidentally, have just watched “escape to the country “ focused on Dorset ... you lucky, lucky devil!!

Hi Rose,

Welcome from a Dorset (Poole) Lad ! ! albeit living in Scotland.

I have had a Discovery from new since May 2016, and it has been perfect. Being old school I did not like the idea of two year oil changes (this was before dilution was topic of the month) and had the oil changed annually. The advice hints and suggestions on this site are brilliant and has become my daily place to visit.

I took the suggestions of rear door struts creeping and rear brake shoes corroding by putting it on the check list for my dealer (Parks of Ayr) to look at
which they changed under warranty without question. So there are some good dealers out there.

Enjoy the vehicle, I am sure you will.

Best Wishes

Chris
