Has anyone done a conversion to add a space saver to a 7 seater?

Post by Woodlore » Tue Jun 22, 2021 6:09 pm

Hi all,

Recently got myself a Disco Sport with the 7 seats but no spare tyre at all. Not even a space saver.

Having just spent a very long and tiring weekend dealing with a side wall blow out (no hope for the included goop) I have been looking at getting a spare tyre.

It seems that with the 7 seats, the best I can get is a space saver, but I'm more than happy with that at the moment.

Has anyone got any experience, knowledge, pictures or information about retrospectively adding a space saver tyre to a disco?

Secondly, any owners out there with a 7 seater and space saver have any pictures you could share that would give me an idea of what's going on back there?

Thanks!

Have a look under the rear of the car - if you have a full width exhaust silencer it covers the space where the space saver would go (with two smaller silencers, one either side). I suspect you’ll have the full width silencer and no facility for winching the spare down as no space saver spare wheel was fitted at the factory.

So you can either take the rear seats out if you don’t need them and fashion a way to hold the wheel - there won’t be a wheel well either (a couple of people on here have done it and posted photos) Or keep the wheel, jack, brace, etc. in a bag in the boot.

Ah, so that might explain why the LR dealership said they couldn't/wouldn't add one in.
It would require different exhausts on the car and therefore isn't a simply addition.

That is incredibly frustrating! Thank you for the information and help.

It is indeed annoying. I used to keep a full-size spare in the boot, but a) it takes up most of the boot space and b) there's nothing to hold it down - possibly fatal in an accident. Here's what it looks like:

Rip out the useless rear seats and drop in a space saver.
