No problem. I bought the update today and everything went smoothly. For us its $160CAD which is quite steep so I imagine I will be doing it annually at most.

I complained that a new road, opened in early 2018, was not on my Sat Nav maps on a car delivered in late November 2018 and which I know was assembled in November 2018. Not sure I have exactly what you are referring to but my dealer carried out a free update of the maps early in January 2020.

anyone coming at this for the first time, theres an infuriating failure in the process that is not mentioned anywhere.

the first time you go to get a map at landrover.here.com , a map download tool is downloaded...not a problem. When you go to get the map a second time, the downloader is opened, and tells you you need to download to a USB device.

Sticking in a new USB drive, it says it has to be formatted to FAT32 and asks you if you want to do it, but when you click yes, it just falls over. No problem, just right click on the USB stick and format it yourself....except windows 10 no longer supports formatting to FAT32, only exFat or NTFS.

Look up solutions online and folks tell you to do it via a command prompt. But then you find that's been crippled by windows 10 to only support USB drives up to 32GB, not big enough for the latest map download !

And the downloader won't allow you to download to you hard drive, so that you can figure this all out later !

Anyhow, the solution is to download a utility that can do it. In my case I used guiformat-x64.exe, this is a windows program that does allow you to format drives of any size to fat32. You can find it here http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index. ... format.htm . downloads at your own risk etc.

So whoever designed the map upgrading process, overlooked the fact that only supporting FAT32 on the USB drives, made it incompatible with the vast number of home PCs, once the download size passed 32GB.

Hope the above helps someone else coming at this for the first time with a windows10 system.

The actual download wasn't too bad, took about 1:40. However, given theres well over 700 files in the download, I'm guessing if they compressed, zipped, and then unzipped after download, it wold reduce the download time significantly.

I haven't had this problem. I just bought a new usb stick, put it in and downloaded. The only problem is that it needed a larger memory than specified - I think the site specifies 32GB but I had to use a 64GB stick. Have you tried just downloading and skipping the formatting bit?

won't allow download unless it detects the USB stick is FAT32

Maybe some sticks come with the correct format? I used a 64GB SanDisk Ultra. No problem.

The files are compressed.

The sizes they state rarely seem to match the actual requirement. The system says that 32GB ios the maximum you can use yet the past few monthly updates have suggested they needed more than 32GB - none so far HAS needed more than a 32 GB drive

I'm afraid that since the release of November 2019 updates, (Europe & Russia} a 32GB USB 3 device has had insufficient storage space to store all the map data required for this region. Admittedly only by a matter of hundreds of Mb, but map data storage space required is over the typical 28Gb usable storage after a FAT32 format.

64Gb USB 3 drives are less than a tenner now, and the file sizes are only ever going to get larger.

With regards the OP unable to format to FAT32 in Win10, try using a Mac or a machine still running XP (should be plenty about)

According to the files on the Samsung USB3 32GB device I use for the purpose I last downloaded the Europe & Russia update on 3rd April 2020.

Which is why I say the size it says it will need makes little sense.

The file timestamps show it took 40 minutes to download the complete set (that was via a slow VPN connection via Germany and The Netherlands).
