165 point used car check

Post by CSMnorman » Sun Apr 08, 2018 1:11 pm

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but does anyone actually have a copy of the checklist that dealerships are meant to work through before a LR is classed as 'approved used'?
I have recently purchased a MY17 DS SEtech 150 that is classed as 'approved used' but because its mileage was so low (48miles on collection) I was wondering if they would have actually gone through that particular list. I think theres an issue with headlamp alignment and tyre pressures were all over the place when I picked the car up...about 42psi on fronts and 36psi on rears.
Would be grateful for a copy or a link to that list if possible.
Many thanks

In my experience, the only checklist point seems to be chucking a bucket of water over it.

One dealership didn't even bother checking the engine oil level, and tried to charge me a week later when it was back with them for a minor niggle to be sorted. They tried to tell me that despite only covering 77 miles from collection, it was perfectly normal for the engine to have used .7 of a litre of oil.

Needless to say, they are no longer trading.....

They even fail to do the P.D.I. (Pre Delivery Inspection) correctly, Most (ALL?) new cars usually need the AdBlue filled within a few thousand miles.
With such very low miles I hope you got a good explanation of its "history", Low, but more than just the transporter load/offload. ie be suspicious.
Make a list as far as possible within your ability, and give them a written copy, demand a loan car for free while they do it.,

Here's a link to the list which may help you even though it's for the US.

If any dealer says he actually did all the checks I'd definitely not believe him.

Thanks for the responses and the checklist.

Checklist was interesting but at the end of the day, its only a checklist and doesn't mean that all checked items are actioned I guess.

I'm happy with the mileage. I don't think there's anything suspicious. The original ad stated it had done 6500 miles, which seemed quite reasonable for a July 17 used vehicle. When I looked at the ad in more detail, I spotted that dash photo was dated 13th November and the reading was only 7 miles. When I had test drive it was on 29 miles to start and 39 on return. I picked up vehicle 2 weeks later with 48 miles on the clock. All seems reasonable to me. Happy its not a rejected car being sold on.

IMHO the gazillion-point checklists of dealers are not worth much. When I. got my DS I had no issues on pick up (they started after...) but with my replacement Audi as soon as I got home I checked and the oil level was at minimum, despite it being just serviced and checked (approved used). Ridiculous. I got very apologetic compensation and freebies from the dealer.
