New member because of this fault who found this site to be invaluable.
Fault occurred at the end of last year, took car to local trusted garage to investigate some pretty horrendous noises coming from front of car. He discovered two sheered bolts and 3rd on way out. We only realised this was a common problem when he couldn't get hold of any parts. Contacted the dealer who said get the car there. Dealership was obviously aware of the problem and I have to say, compared to the experience of others on here, were very good and helpful. Can't quite say the same for JLR who stalled at 100% "goodwill".
With the evidence gained from this site bunkered down and refused to budge from 100% After a few weeks of the car sitting at the dealers JLR finally coughed up the full amount.
Used to love the car but now lost all faith in JLR.
Previous day had been out on the moors in quite snowy conditions, plenty of opportunities for a pretty disastrous failure.
Perseverance and use of information from this site paid off and saved me a lot of money.
About to contact Which. Also MP as there do seem to be some regulatory issues here.

Steering has failed and dealer wants to fit a new rack. Its not the bolt issue and appears to be electrical issues. Has had the loom changed under recall and JLR say its in the rack. Car is about to be 5 years old in a few days and has 29k on the clock.

Main error is: B1304-04 Electronic Power Assisted Steering System - System Internal Failures

JLR Advice centre reply 'failure of the internal electrical components of the steering rack can happen at any time' which is strictly correct but on a car of this age and mileage?

Anyone else with this fault as I'm about to be £2,840 poorer

Thanks

Looks like I am the latest in a long line of Discovery Sport owners to have this issue. Pulled into a car park and there was a bang followed by a violently shuddering stearing wheel. A local 4x4 specialist confirmed it was the power steering powor mounting bolts that had sheared then gave me a few eye watering quotes for a new stearing rack. I spoke with Landrover at that point and they insited on the car being inspected by one of their dealers so I had the car recovered up to the dealer in Perth (at my expense). They told me it would be just over £3,000 for a new rack fitted and Landrover have offered to cover 40% of the repair as goodwill.

I have gone back to them armed with the knowledge that this has happened to numerous drivers on this forum, there was a product recall in Canada and a DVSA investigation here suggesting a recall but landrover decided to go with a fix on fail basis.

Any further advice from anyone who managed to get the full 100% of the repair covered would be much appreciated and I will update with JLR's responce.

I have also reported issue to DVSA.

Phone the Land Rover Customer Experience Centre and they should arrange for 100% payment to the dealer for the replacement rack. The dealer may argue that this will come without a warranty, but ignore that - this is a known design defect and should be the subject of a global recall. Without the aluminium bolts the replacement rack will outlive the rest of the car.
