Heater/Air Con Fan not working.

I recently had the following problem and am wondering whether or not anyone else has experienced the same or similar.

Leaving home recently the heating and ventilation system worked normally.

After hitching up the caravan which we keep in a compound close to our home and driving off again the whole heating and ventilation system including the air conditioning crashed.

By trial and error we found out that by very slightly opening any one of the windows the system functioned again but in a very limited way. Minimum fan speed, no a/c and no heating.

After about 100km we parked up for about 10 minutes and upon driving off again full functionality had returned. There has been no repeat of the problem since.

Anyone care to contribute? Thanks in advance.

Might have been caused by a spike when connecting the caravans electric connector. Switching off the car before adding the connection might prevent that. I admit I also just put the connector in with the engine running, but...

We had the same issue albeit we don't tow anything. The climate system crashed and the front panel lit up but did nothing.
The battery was disconnected and this restarted everything. Not had the issue since. There are software updates/Technical bulletins for climate
(Q586 - Automatic Temperature Control Module (ATCM) Software Update)
(LTB00910 - Auto Circulation Cannot Be Set To High In The Climate Settings Screen)
(LTB00693v4 - Poor Air Conditioning (A/C) Performance)
which we had applied to the vehicle. Now the temp is consistent and not eratic via different vents.

Had this now, too.
After normal startup of the car, I was wondering about the fogged windows while driving. I wanted to set the fan speed to a higher level when I realised that the complete system (fan, heating, a/c) was not working at all. The control panel was lit and even showed the changes I made in temperature or fan speed.
A short stop and restart didn´t help to solve but the next day everything was working fine again. It only happened once, so far.

Do you think Q586 is applicable here?

Thanks
Nic

Thanks Chippy,

no complaints about the system here as well, apart from that single occurence.
Q586 is not listed for mine, too. I found it in the service informations section of topix and a search on the forum produced this thread here.

I just wonder if it is worth mentioning when it goes back to the dealer in the next weeks for the next bunch of fixes.

Regards
Nic

It certainly can't do any harm just mentioning it.

On mine the Aircon froze while driving in 40° last Aug. After a break the system worked again but shot ice needles. My wife first thought the front screen broke and the needles were glass. Since then we had several occations during longer trips (without the ice). A stop to fill up is long enough to reset.
Once I was successful by switching off the A/C and the fans for a few minutes without stopping.
I got no error message. I hope the dealer will find something in the logs when they take the car in to fix the vibration problem. They said they will keep it until it's fixed.....

I had the fan motor stop working on mine ... all the graphics on the dash showed everything was ok and only realised the problem on the first damp morning when it didn't demist .... booked it into the dealer and in the meantime going over a speed bump the fan started working .... dealer checked all the connections and it has been ok since

I parked my car at the Gatwick Hilton long stay (outside) car park collecting the vehicle on 25th November. I understand that during my time outside the UK there had been heavy rain and gale force winds.
Driving home to the West Country I noticed there was no heating or air flow through the system although all the dash controls were set correctly. Not good after enjoying 30C abroad returning to 8C here!
Telephone a couple of LR Dealerships and got the car in for diagnostic within 24 hours - most helpful from one, whilst the other wouldn't even look at the car for 10 days although the service person did ask if the car had been standing outside when I mentioned being parked for 2-weeks so I think they knew the problem.
Apparently there is a LR Bulleting out on heater fan motors failing where the seal in the engine compartment hasn't been fitted properly during assembly allowing Ingres of water necessitating complete renewal. This is a 3 hour job plus the cost of the unit. Part has been ordered from LR and fix being done under warrantee so booked in for 2nd December.
Whilst in software update completed for Gateway battery drain, although my car has not been affected by this known fault and also rear number plate bulb holders replaced, again LR Bulletin issue as original ones can fall out.

I've just had the same. Away for 2 weeks. Get picked up from the airport by my mum. And had a go at her for clearing the windscreen with her hands arrrrr. Then I realise that the fan is not working. Was 35C yesterday. -3 this morning. Not happy. Hope it's a quick fix.

I'm David. New to this forum.
Owner of Discovery Sport SE 2015 model. Live in Spain, vehicle delivered to me by Landrover, Melton Mowbray, Leics. brilliant service to date by LR. Third vehicle from them.
Just returned from 4 weeks in U.K. Driving through France and Spain, all weathers and rain. No problems to date until
this morning. Car all okay except nothing from climate control. No fan, nothing worked, press max a/c, nothing, press max defrost, nothing, auto or manual fan, nothing. No heat or cool. Not even a sound. Vehicle diagnostics dashboard display and in-control remote health check say nothing wrong.
Has anyone experienced this?

Car interior wouldn't heat up - fan not working so dropped by dealership and asked them to take a look.
They were very obliging checked fault codes - nothing
Tried software reboot - no joy.
Checked obvious things such as fuses etc and then decided they needed to get technical and investigate wiring etc but no courtesy car available till 19th Jan.
They then suggested that it would be dangerous to drive around for most of January without heating as windows would mist up etc so suggested I drive home and call LR assist.
Took their advice and pressed the button in roof whilst sitting on my drive. Marvelous - got through strait away - they new which vehicle I was in reg no etc. Where I was and were able to interrogate the car looking for fault codes etc. Talk about "Beam me up Scotty"!!
They dispatched a very nice man who was with me in 1.5 hours.
This LR technician had just come from a job where he had spent 3 hours on exactly the same fault and informed me that he would fix mine in 2 minutes!!
He lifted bonnet, took off the protective cover over the battery - got the handle of his trolley jack, pushed it down a gap behind where you could just see the fan blades. (he had previously told me to switch on ignition without starting car), gave the fan a nudge and it sprang back into life. SORTED.
He accidentally found the problem on previous job after spending a couple of hours taking off all the covers behind the engine and accidentally knocking the fan.
He has advised me to book the car in and get the dealership to maybe change the fan unit - trouble is, it involves taking out the dashboard ARGH!!
My car had been sitting in an airport car park for 2 weeks 4 days prior to this and it was quite mild when I drove home so may not have been working then and used it for the first time yesterday when I noticed problem. So could have been caused by lack of use.
Very tempted to just give it a squirt of WD40 and see how it goes.

Update on above. Car was finally taken in last Thursday (this was earliest they could let me have a courtesy car) and has been in dealership ever since. They apparently have to change the heater/ air con fan motor but none are available. I wonder why!!
There have apparently been quite a few failures of these fan motors.
I had a call from dealer today requesting their courtesy car back (Full blown Disco 4) and want to swap me over to a Land Rover Assistance loan car so I am now insisting that they make this car available for me to take abroad if need arises (daughter in Austria heavily pregnant at mo) and to add the "other half" to the insurance as well. This request caused a few eyebrow raises but they seem to be dealing with it. Now awaiting a call from Dealer to confirm.
I did suggest perhaps giving me my car back until motor is in stock but it is in bits so not possible!

Thanks for reply. Have seen the Topix number etc but not any detail as to the fix. Do you have any detail?
No sadly my subscription ran out before it was made available , I have seen a few others on here with "stalling" fans as they call it, so not uncommon I guess.

Hi all, new to this forum so grateful for advice. I too just got back from a winter break with car left at Manchester airport meet & greet for 10 nights, to find that heating not working in -1 temps. Car is a 2106 HSE LUX 7 seat diesel, so less that 12 months old but heater fan not working in main cabin, seem to wrk in the boot area though. Does the known fan motor fault in previous post apply to all models, thanks

I had basically the same problem on my previous DS with the heating/ventilation not functioning at all. After parking up for about 20 minutes and restarting everything was back to normal.

Maybe worth a try. Good luck.

My DS has been at dealers for 12 days now awaiting new fan motor - apparently none in country at mo so one has been ordered from manufacturer "over seas" is all they will tell me - suspect China, as taking an age to get here.!!
Driving around now in Land Rover Assistance top of the range (Landmark) D4 which looks as though it is an ex JLR management car registered last June with 7K miles on it and wired for digital TV front and rear!! A bit thirsty though compared to DS. Like the V6 diesel.
