Windscreen Heater - Fire Hazard
Started my 1 week old Disco Sport to warm up and put the windscreen heater on as we had snow in scotland - 10 minutes later the cabin was full of smoke and the passenger side windscreen pillar glowing red behind the trim

Re: Windscreen Heater - Fire Hazard
Yikes, that doesn't sounds like fun at all.

Thanks for joining the forum with that story. Hopefully a one off as never heard of it before.

Doesn’t fill me with much confidence but as above hopefully it’s a one off. Doesn’t help you though mate. Surely you’ll get a new car replacement and a courtesy car whilst waiting for it?

Please keep us updated on the outcome from the Dealer about this.
I just picked up my new car this morning and have used the heated windscreen constantly on all my previous cars during the winter as I have to get up early in the mornings.

Re: Windscreen Heater - Fire Hazard
Just a thought and I may well be wrong but I’m not sure that the system is actually intended to clear snow.
Certainly not actually confidence building that’s for sure.

Who knows Wensleydale. Perhaps the second part of their forum name tells us something.Wensleydale wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 1:46 pmWell no update in a week. The OP hasn't logged in since posting this as their first post..wonder if it is a genuine post???Thinking Sarah Street was so right

Re: Windscreen Heater - Fire Hazard
It's also such an odd thing to happen, heated windscreens have been around for quite a while (to the point where they're now out of Fords patent) and I've never heard of this happening before. Quite a few things need to go wrong before you end up with "the passenger side windscreen pillar glowing red", fuses, etc.

Re: Windscreen Heater - Fire Hazard
You also don’t need to turn on the heated windscreen as it comes on automatically depending on outside ambient temperature.
