Hello All,
My 2016 SE Tech as just been in for service at Guy Salmon Wakefield and the health check indicates TIMING CHAIN RATTLING,
the cost of repair is £2535, the vehicle has done 37000 miles and has a full main dealer service history.
The dealer never mentioned a goodwill contribution but after some research I have requested this.
I have spoke to my insurance legal advice (AA) and they think Land Rover should cover the cost of the repair in full under some consumer goods law.
Has anyone else had this problem.
Thanks in advance.
Andy.

I have this problem right now on my 2016 discovery HSE. I had the sprocket changed which is a common problem with the discovery sport as my mechanic found a Technical service bulletin online here https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2016/SB-10105744-9340.pdf

we had it changed and ran fine now there is a loud rattling sound coming from the timing chain area, and we think it may be the tensioner. Which is $157 Canadian from the dealership. I am hoping to get it back in the coming days and I can update than.

Land Rover have just called to confirm that this will be repaired with no cost to myself,
I have been provided with a courtesy car (2021 Evoque) until my discovery is returned.
I am still a bit unhappy with Guy Salmon Wakefield due to them saying that my only option was to pay the full amount.
A good result though in the end.

Great result at the end. Did Guy Salmon deal with the enquiry with Land Rover to cover the cost or did you bring it up with them?

Beadles Land Rover near me are charging one hour labour rate to check my rattle, @ £216. Just wondering the best way to tackle the issue. My car has is also a 2016 but has a lot more mileage at 77k.

I rang Land Rover Customer Services who directed me back to the dealer to raise the issue.
I did tell them that i would be looking to upgrade my vehicle in the next year and would be looking elsewhere if this didn't turn out well.
The dealer is now struggling to get parts for the repair so I have a courtesy car for now.

We're in almost exactly the same scenario. 2016 HSE. 50K miles. Had oil dilution issue when about 12 months old. Now needs the timing chain sorting.

LR have offered 80%, but that would still leave about £500 to pay.

Did they offer you 100% straight off, or did you have to 'fight' for it?

Also sent you a PM.

Thanks

Initially the dealer asked me to pay the £2500, but after telling them that I wanted a contribution from Land Rover they came back and said it would be done at no cost to myself.
They've had the car for over 3 weeks now and still haven't got the parts.

Sorry if asking a repeated/already answered question, I'm new to the forum.
We have just had our 2016 Disco Sport HSE LUX serviced at Grange Dealership in Barnet, they have just informed me that the timing chain is rattling and the noise has been made worse as they have changed the engine oil as per the 72 month service. I have been informed that the chain needs replacing, it has only done 60k!! I will ask for a contribution, did you have push back from them before they gave in?

Have you got the car back yet?
My car was returned on Wednesday 03/11,
It's a lot quieter than before and i also payed £93 for the DPF head shield welding repair which has been done.
The low battery message kept coming on but after using a charger and a couple of runs this has now cleared.
To my surprise the Stop/Start is also now working, this hasn't worked for the last 2 years so a good result all round.

I got my timing chain replaced under warranty from the place I got my car from, Big Motoring World. I only had a car a month at the time and then I started to hear a cold start 5 seconds of rough engine noise, so I took it straight back. I believe they tried to get Land Rover to do the job but they had no luck so they did it themselves as the parts are not that expensive and they have enough technicians working there. Took a long time in general as it was booked in initially to check the problem, then enquires with Land Rover and then rebooked in for getting the job done all in-between a period where they had people out with covid etc.

I also reported to them that I am hearing a full lock noise so in doing the above they found the steering rack problem with the damn common bolt issue, it had broken my steering rack. Big Motoring World basically said its not covered as part of the warranty I had with them but as the car is not fit/safe to drive they will take care of it, by firstly taking it up with Land Rover or will do it themselves. They booked it in at Guy Salmon and it was confirmed the steering rack needed replacing but Guy Salmon and/or Land Rover played hard to get and refused covering any of the costs. However Big Motoring World fought the case with them with photo evidence and other reports off the internet and weeks later managed to get Land Rover to pay for the whole job and after approval the car was done the next working day!

Just picked it up today.

Good afternoon, I also recently had my 2016 HSE LUX serviced. Only 33k miles but have been advised there is a timing change rattle. It's booked in at Grange Barnet next Monday. Just wondering whether the issue with your disco was resolved to your satisfaction? Many thanks
