How old is the car?

If it's still under warranty then I'd go back to the dealer with it. As far as I can see when reading your long post this is not something that you have done.

tried to get the old brain cells in gear to remember but I think it was in 1965 when I borrowed the Buick from my cousin. Great car to take to a drive - inn movie.

Oh after a few kilometers driving after the trans reset?? I can see no difference so my first drive after the reset was probably wishful thinking.
Interesting comments on the transmission reset Canuk. On the other topic I tend to call them "older" brain cells but I suppose that I'm only kidding myself. ;)

Driven automatic cars ( probably longer than some of the members of been alive  ) both old ( first one was a 1954 Buick) and modern and the one we have is nice to drive. Neighbor has a Jeep with same transmission and no problems.
Hi Canuk, I'm glad that you said it was a 1954 Buick and not that you drove it in 1954. ;)

It's interesting to see that it is apparently a common way to reset the memory on automatic gearboxes.

Like you Hmmm I'm happy with the box so don't have any need to try the reset.

Some on here think it's ok but I guess that's because you get used to its idiosyncratic behaviour over time.
I'm one of those seemingly few members on here that found the gearbox in the DS to be excellent and it's behaviour was by no stretch of the imagine did I find its behaviour idoisyncratic. In our Evoque it's just as good if not a little better. I think it's one of things that if get it into your head that it's rubbish then it is and always will be.

Agree with you completely PaulCP.

On both the DS MY16 (one software update was applied early on which improved it somewhat) and MY17 (no updates it was fine as it came) we had no problems. The same goes for the auto box in our Evoque which is also the 9 speed from ZF.

Hi wardie, your word is my command. ;)

I recently exchanged my DS for an Evoque which, as you say, shares the 9 speed ZF box.

After the software update on our MY16 DS I was very pleased with the gearbox as I was from day one of our second DS.

In the Evoque the gearbox performs excellently whereby I sometimes have the feeling that it doesn't hunt for the right gear quite so much as was the case in the DS.

It's very smooth changing both up and down the gears and in conjunction with the 180hp TD4 engine provides and fine drive train.

Really like the gearbox, D for general driving around, S for B roads and when I need it in the lower gears.

Does what it says on the tin.
Same here it's something I'm really happy with.

If you suspect that you have a problem with the heat shield that is being talked about here then you definitely need to visit the dealer.

There is a danger that the shield could fall off with undesirable consequences.

Can I assume that cars built after the latest software upgrade will already have the latest version installed?
How come when LR update software because of reported issues, it's not automatically applied to cars about to go onto the production line?
I would say it's because they haven't got their quality systems under control. In this case the information from the field isn't being fed back into production system as quickly as it needs to be.

Goes into 9th quite happily at motorway cruise speeds. 70/75 and up. Never had to force it. (You can tell from the tacho when it does it.)

Attempting to force it into 9th at speeds around 50-60 are just ignored.
Exactly the same with mine whereby the software update did solve the problem that was originally being discussed here.

Yes there is. It tells you if your are in D drive or S sports in full automatic mode or if you are using the paddles to change manually you see the actual gear that the car is in.

Hi everyone,

I am having exactly the sensation mentioned in this post. This is my first auto gear but tried others and never had this sensation. My Disco is brand new, it arrived 3 weeks ago, so it should have came with the last version of the software and mapping of the gearbox. As the mechanics are exactly the same for the evoques, did you hear that they are experiencing the same issue? because it is the same gearbox and the same engine, if it solved for them it should be solved for us...

Regards
Hello Julkan,

I suppose one would rightfully assume that your DS should have the latest software and gearbox mapping but knowing what else LR (and other manufacturers) are capable of I wouldn't be too sure. I'm not sure but would suspect that the Evoque may have different gearbox mapping.

I'd get the dealer to check you DS anyway.

My DS was at the dealership all last week having the leather reworked and at the same time they carried out a software update on the gearbox.

I also had the problem of a sluggish pull away which, after the update, has completely disappeared. Apparently there is a notice from JLR on this.

is anyone else disappointed with how poor the Auto gearbox is? I had a Merc auto a year or so ago which was an absolute dream to drive, both pulling away and in general driving. My disco though is woeful bordering on downright dangerous when pulling away. whether I'm taking a rolling start or from complete standstill if you put your foot down to pull away you get absolutely nothing for 2/3seconds then it pulls away like an absolute rocket, firing you back in to your seat! Its about as subtle as a clown fight.

I genuinely think its trying to kill me!
Quite the opposite. As far as I'm concerned it's as good as if not better than any other auto box I've ever had and that includes those from BMW, Mercedes, Audi and Porsche.
