But how do you reset the Oil Service counter once you have changed the oil and filter? I am led to believe on the Ingenium at least, that this is Dealer/Pathfinder only. No dealer will reset the counter if they haven't carried out the oil change, as it would leave them wide open to fraudulent activity.
I am calling in to GS Coventry today to ask them all these questions to hopefully decide on a course of action. Not happy paying £280 for an oil and filter change when I have just paid a Nissan dealer £130 for the same on my 370Z Nismo!!!
Just shows you how much JLR dealers rip off their customers tbh , wouldn't be so bad if the did a drain and flush, for that price, but they just suck it out of the top leaving half the sh1t behind.

Land Rover offered this on Freelander 2 models, effectively allowing dealers to match indy prices. However it wasn't well advertised and you had to point it out to your dealer. Not sure if it still exists, and of course dealers could still make up the profits on extras like brake pads etc. As the Disco service plan is for 5 years, they presumably don't think it's necessary yet anyway.

It's called Land Rover 3+ and seems to have disappeared from LR website. Still shown on a dealer's site, but could be out of date (!) and only applies to certain models. https://www.helstongarages.co.uk/land-rover/servicing-offers/3-plus/
It is still valid for both FL2 and Disco 3, however, given what we already know about Main dealers, I would rather pay my LR Approved (rare as hens teeth) Independant and know that the job was done properly first time round than rather half-heartedly by the Trainee in a Main Dealer who is welded to his iPhone twittering away instead of focussing on the job in hand.

The so-called "5 year" service contract includes 2 services: one oil (A), one main (B). Even if you never drove the thing it's only a 4 year contract. With high mileage and diesel dilution it's really a 2 to 3 year service plan. Yet another piece of adroit misdirection designed to catch the unwary.

It does give you the adblue topups and, presumably, extra free oil changes if needed up to the 5-year/50000 mile limit. There is also the MoT failure insurance, although no doubt that has plenty of exclusions...

PastMaster - it's (UK) Warranty period only - 3 years. Not 5.

Sorry, we are talking at cross purposes. I was referring to the interim oil changes, not MOT insurance. JLR have made it clear that these interim oil changes will only be included during the warranty period (3 years), or 50,000 miles.

No, according to the latest communication from JLR, it it only 3 years.

Good afternoon,

Thank you all for your comments.

Should a vehicle require a service prior to the scheduled service a booking would need to be made with an approved Land Rover retailer to enable them to investigate the concerns further.

If an oil and filter change is required due to oil dilution this should be covered under the manufacturers warranty period.

Once the vehicle is outside of the manufacturers warranty each case is reviewed to establish if Land Rover will cover the cost of this. I would like to advise that many different factors are taken into consideration during the review.

Unfortunately at present this is still being investigated by the engineering team therefore I do not have any further updates I am able to provide to you at this time.

Thanks, Stacie

Ah,
Thanks for the clarification. Luckily mine only seems to need one interim oil change per service. Also, bizarrely, my manufacturer's warranty runs for 3½ years according to OSH. I'm not complaining.

Regarding the latest confirmation from JLR, it should be noted that the goodwill oil changes were never intended to protect the long-term health of the engine, just to minimise the number of engine failures during the warranty period due to high oil dilution (per JLRP00100). Is it not the case that officially there's nothing wrong with any of these cars and they are all performing normally?

For the majority of cars, once the "finishing line" represented by the end of the warranty period has been safely reached, their financial exposure disappears and only in exceptional circumstances will they then deem it necessary to keep paying for the additional oil changes. In the paragraph where it says, "each case is reviewed to establish if Land Rover will cover the cost of this" it would perhaps have been more honest if it read:

Once the vehicle is outside of the manufacturers warranty we assess the anger, determination and resources of each customer to establish if Land Rover will cover the cost of this. I would like to be able to advise that many different factors are taken into consideration during the review, but I can't. In truth it will come down to brute force. Most of you are just cash cows, after all.

There might be another department doing similar work or CRC could have morphed. Another recent communication was signed:
