Service interval

Hi
A bit puzzled and would appreciate other's thoughts.

Just had second interim oil and filter change on my MY17(March) DS. Countdown started at14,800 miles, so dealer agreed the work would be FOC. So far so good.

When I collected the car there was no charge. I wasn't given any record of the work done. When I got home I logged in to the car's OSH and found that there was nothing showing since the first interim oil/filter change, which had been done at 6,900 miles.

Starting to get a bit suspicious, I checked the distance to next service message. It read 12,150 miles. I had expected it to be in the range 19,850 to 21,000 miles.

So, I'm wondering if this is all normal.....no paperwork, nothing on OSH and reset to 12,150 miles?
Maybe I should be grateful it was FOC.
I'd be glad of any advice before I go to query all this with the dealer.

Many thanks EYR

I hope to get something like the invoice you received, especially since the OSH gives me no evidence of the work having been done.

Coincidentally, my vehicle's oil dilution was also 6.9%. I have ordered a Millers test kit and will post that result when I have it.

Thanks again

Thanks, Past master.

I get it now; a goodwill gesture not on OSH makes sense.

What confused me (easily done!) was that the first oil and filter change, which was done at 6,900 miles, was entered into the OSH by a Spanish Main dealer. To muddy the waters further, they logged the work as both an oil/filter change and a main service. I've been assuming that they couldn't log the one without the other.

Off now to polish my interrogation skills and find out why my service range was set to 12,150 miles.

Highly coincidentally .. !! .. I was at my dealer today to book a service and was told that my DS is due for N289. Taking most of what I hear there with a pinch of salt, I checked on TOPIX and there it was! It hadn't been there a few days ago.

I'm a bit puzzled. (Nothing new there!). My DS had N118 and N025 applied last year. Maybe this is some kind of tweak to the earlier updates? Surely they aren't playing with the oil dilution algorithm to let the car run further between oil services without any reference to owners.

Can anyone shed any light?

Separately from the N289 mystery......

I spoke to the dealer today to arrange a 24 month service. I asked for a full service minus the oil and filter change, because my latest FOC oil/filter change was only 700 miles ago and was done at between 75% md 90% of the standard 21000 miles. (JLRP00100 refers). I expected some resistance!

Their first response was: "We always change the oil at a 21k service". I waved my hard copy of JLRP00100.

Their second response was: "Where did you get that? It's only supposed to be on our WASP system "

Their third line was: "JLRP00100 has been rescinded"

Their final position was: "Its your car, sir. If you don't want us to change the oil, we won't"
They adjusted the price appropriately.

So.... a big thank you to members who have informed us about JLRP00100.
And...."rescinded" - Really??

Badgerface...you're absolutely right. Planning to spend the "£200 saving" on Rioja, in the hope of forgetting the world's most expensive pollen filter.😯

What an awful lot of posters forget is that the algorithm in distance to service doesn't just compute probable distance based on stop/starts and regens, it also factors in original timescales.

For example, if an early oil change was made at say circa 11k and 9 months, the distance reset would not override time to next service, and the vehicle would calculate (fairly quickly) that the the service would be due in 13 months best, adjusted for journey start/stop times over a period of real time.

To give this to you in English/laymans terms - my own personal DS is not due a service until next July. It had an interim oil change at the end of July this year, and the service counter has leapt down from 19850 to 12200 inside of 3000 motorway miles. Some of you might be alarmed at that, personally I'm not. It's in keeping with TIME to next service. If it drops to 3000 miles inside the next 3 months, then all of you fretting will have a point, but I am certain that it won't. It's not just counting down oil services due to journey regens, it's also factoring in time to service as well. Something that I can guarantee that you are all overlooking in the grand scheme of things.

Drive the car and enjoy it. Stop worrying unduly, life is too short (as is vehicle life!)
Have had an interim service today and the freshly-reset service counter is reading 5000 miles to next service.. I reckon that makes sense, in light of the above, and since it's only 5 months to the 4-year service.

Pessimistic thought: When that service falls due there will probably only be 2-3000 miles on this oil (Covid travel limitations), but the dealer will want to change it and charge the full whack. Guess I'll grin and bear it!

Cheery thought: Have benefitted from FOC interim oil changes, thanks to loads of great advice from knowledgeable folks on this forum.
