Hi,

Looking for some advice!

2016 Disco Sport (TDI) started losing power and sounding like a bag of nails. Would then barely start. Independent specialist reckoned it was something terminal, possibly timing chain. I decided to take it to the main dealer for their diagnosis. Their take: blown turbo (as I suspected) which had taken out the DPF and oil cooler with it. Approx 5k bill, managed to haggle JLR up from 20% to 40% contribution. Not great, not terrible.

However, a few days later I received a call - they had started everything up and the engine had seized. New engine required. JLR would still honour contributing 40% (of the 13k bill) but no more (even with a bit of direct pressure from me). That still leaves me with a bill for a new engine that is the best part of the car’s current value!

I have seen from various forums this isn’t an isolated incident, and in fact is more common than JLR would like, due potentially, in part, to the ridiculous oil dilution inherent in the Ingenium design. Of note: the car has a full service history, last service was carried out at the dealer in question.

Any advice on my next step? Without applying some legal pressure I fear JLR will not budge on their contribution, but legal pressure would be a cost in itself, and absolutely no guarantee of success.

Thanks in anticipation!

I just replied the following to the poor Buck chap who is the latest victim:

I can offer no advice only to say that having experienced the same on my 2017 MY i feel your pain.

I only got 40% plus they found a stuffed turbo to add to my huge bill.

It has now only done 7k miles and needs an oil change due to oil dilution and they say that is normal!!

Repair and sell if I were you.

I had the same problem on my 2016 model.

At first it was the turbo second year of owning and under 50000km. Replaced under warranty.

Fourth year of ownership was Transmission control moudule. Could not change gears, stuck on first or second. Only need to be reset.
$500 AUD

Just recently at 110000km the timing chain caused damage inside engine. Replaced with a Reconditioned one at $17K AUD. Warranty had expired so had to pay all out of pocket.
