Set to go on sale in 2015, the Discovery Sport is being billed as an "all-new premium compact SUV" that will become the first new member of Discovery family. Land Rover has not released pictures of the model but hinted it will borrow styling cues and features from the Discovery Vision concept.

Nothing is official but the Discovery Sport will likely ride on an extended version of the LR-MS platform - a heavily reworked version of the Evoque's largely steel platform; it isn't primarily aluminium like the new Range Rover, Range Sport and forthcoming big Discovery.

It will feature a variety of fuel-efficient four-cylinder Ingenium engines, it's not certain the turbocharged, all-aluminium fourpots will be ready for its market introduction in January. Jaguar's small saloon - the forthcoming XE - might be first with the boxfresh engines instead: it arrives in April 2015.
