Low pressure at fuel rail
Had an issue where the DS stalled and refused to restart for 5 minutes. Got home and it then refused to start again. RAC diagnosed in tank pump (by noise!) We changed the in tank pump as advised and it fired up no issues until a week later when idling again it stalled and would not start. Started again after 24 hours so did a few 100 miles, no problems until again when left idling for 5 minutes engine cut out and wouldn’t start. Went into indy garage and they have called saying it’s the HPFP in engine as they are getting low pressure fuel readings but not high when the problem was replicated at idle, £3k fix, it’s made me sick!! Before I spend a small fortune can anyone offer advise?
Would a fuel filter change not be a good place for the garage to start? If it is the HPFP why will it run at normal driving all day without a hiccup but die after 5minutes at idle? Any other ideas? I can’t afford to replace the pump for it to be something else in the end.
Sorry for the long thread and I appreciate any help anyone can offer.
