Re: Engine replacing Balance Shaft

Or..... maybe this one could be genuinely due to driving style. Cold oil, cold engine, drained oil supply channel, get in, start up, accelerate too hard before it has got up to temperature.... repeat 30 times in a month... on days like this... maxresdefault.jpg So we pay £30,000/£40,000+ for a car ...

Re: Engine replacing Balance Shaft

Further to my earlier post the car is in the workshop today and it is balance shaft problem. Parts are ordered and meanwhile they have replaced rear disc which they say are corroded. Shafts will be there tomorrow and car should be back with me Saturday. That seems incredible judging the amount of w...

Re: Engine replacing Balance Shaft

If I've still got me car when it approaches 3 years old I'll make sure I take out a Land Rover extended warranty just for piece of mind, as out of warranty the repairs will cost a small fortune if a new engine is required. Even with the LR extended warranty some repairs may still cost you a small f...

Re: Engine replacing Balance Shaft

Our DS has been diagnosed with the dreaded balancer shaft whine at 15000 miles. Replacement balance shafts has been offered as the only option. But I have read on the forum about several owners reporting repeat balance shaft problems - suggesting that the problem was not solved by swapping the shaf...

Re: Engine replacing Balance Shaft

It's a worry the Velar's only had such low mileage on them, what happens when these cars start clocking up 50,000/100,000+. Plus if they still haven't fixed the problem will replacing the balancer shafts really solve the problem or will it just reappear in another 5,000/10,000 once the bearings fail...

Re: Engine replacing Balance Shaft

Bought a new DS in may this year, popped into my dealer yesterday for AdBlue and was told the balance shaft needs replacing or maybe a new engine. Whats the consensus view on what I can & can't insist ie. new engine or new car or just balance haft replacement ? Any thoughts gratefully received. Als...

Re: Engine replacing Balance Shaft

Yes, it'll be interesting to follow the history of this issue, will the number of cars requiring new balance shafts start to decline or not. If not, then let's hope LR hurry up and find a solution to the problem as no other car manufacturer seems to be having similar issues.

Re: Engine replacing Balance Shaft

I suggest you email the garage and ask them to confirm that is the case so you have their answer in writing, just in case the problem does reoccur. I have now had my balance shafts replaced without any issues, the suggestion made by my local main dealer was that Land Rover left a batch of shafts out...

Re: Engine replacing Balance Shaft

So does anybody know if there's a long term solution to this issue by Land Rover given that it seems they don't even know what's causing the problem let alone how to fix it, apart that is from the short term fix of either new balance shafts or a complete new engine. My car is due to go in for the ba...
