This is kinda worrying me as my ds is being built on Friday, any day but Friday. The guy from my dealership who I ordered with is at the factory for a look around, so I just emailed him ,any rattles and their getting it back. End of. How can they still be getting this wrong?

That's bad luck depicus and very sorry to hear about it. I was convinced that going for the 2017 model would have meant that all these niggles would have been sorted. Best of luck getting it fixed.

My guess is more cars have this issue , but not being on this forum plenty of folks will just accept the rattle.
They shouldn't .

Obviously JLR have no idea what is causing it as there fix doesn't work. I can't understand why they don't take cars like your current one back to there research team and get to the bottom of it for once and for all.
Producing an invasive fix that doesn't work is poor engineering.

Buying a car in the "cooler" months of the year leaves you outside the 6 month refund period. I wonder where folks stand legally as they know the cars have an issue that shows up the warmer months.

My own random thought does it also depend on your air con setting ? I.e if aircon set to 18 degrees and outside temp is 26 is it worse, is it the different expansion rates of inner and outer skin , which is that they are chiselling appart in first and second step of fix.
I like a cozy car at 22. Perhaps I might crank down the aircon next week when it is hot outside and see if that makes a difference as I have a very very faint tick on drivers side just emerging.

Oh dear depicus, my MY 17 is built and showing as in 'logistics' right now so hope I don't get the same issue! :(

As with others 2+ years into production you would have thought this issue would have been resolved once and for all!!

Would be nice if customer relations would update us on this issue wouldn't it ?!

They can't give us an update because they don't have an answer to the problem. If they had a solution to the issue the newer MY17 cars like yours wouldn't have the rattle. As a fellow sufferer I agree it's an appalling situation plus it wastes everyone's time including the dealers that they have to send off sound files to JLR for authorisation to get paid to do the repair work. I guess JLR may have had past experience of over zealous dealers billing for repair work that wasn't fully justified but it's us that are kept waiting for action in the meantime.

Once the issue has been logged you should in theory be able to take further action any time in the future if the problem returns. Lets hope they come up with a definitive fix soon.

ps As far as I have been able to tell Air-con makes no difference to the rattle even though it seems to be temperature related. Turn the radio on is my only advice at the moment!

My B pillar rattle seems to disappear when the weather gets warmer but managed to capture a slight ticking today with a better camera. Going to try and get closer tomorrow. You can also laugh at my poor driving skills at 1:22

Nothing from the dealer yet today but I suspect they are waiting on JLR. They need to get a wiggle on because I'm not going past the 30 days without written guarantees and I'm resigned to the fact I'll lose out if I reject but less than if they try and fix and it does not work.

Can you say within roughly what temperature range you can hear it.

Mine starts at about 15C and is gone at around 27/28C but also depends on how the car is loaded at the back.

Not been cold enough for a below figure yet but highest noise was at 8pm when it would have been about 14/15c and today I could hear it albeit much reduced at 22c but 24/25c on the way back and didn't hear it for the minute or two I turned the radio off. So very close to your figures. Not loaded the car yet so cannot comment on that.

Perhaps this is all part of a master plan by JLR marketing so that they can start to sell the option of " Without B-Pillar Rattle". I'd pay for a few bob for it that's for sure :D

Not sure if it's on production model, but one picture I saw of D5 had opposing hinged doors so no B pillar! Perhaps we could get JLR to remove our B pillars if we had problem?

Mine was an ex demo and for a month, I had no sign of any rattle... then I t came with a vengeance. It'd already done 7000 miles before I took it and so - be warned - it can take a long long time to manifest.

I allowed the first two stages of the fix - which didn't work (it never does) and when it came to the third stage I simply said I was unwilling to have it done. Why should a new car be butchered up. If enough people reject the car; maybe JLR will do something about it.

It's disgusting and the issue should be made more widely known.

My advice is: from researching this and suffering myself... refuse the car. As sad as it sounds; the car will never be the same after the third stage fix; it's a disgrace. The work done is in line with crash damage vehicles. It'll be safe but it won't be the same. I had a windscreen swap and even that came back with trim out of wack. I had to point it out.

Refuse. Refuse. Refuse.

JLR need to take a hit to the spreadsheet, seemingly, to fix their horrid build quality.

JLR: if you're reading this; it's been two years and you've not sorted it. Maybe it's time the newpapers and media get a sniff of this story; you're not sorting the issue out - and buyers are being left messing about with dealers and having to go back and forth.

Luckily the dealer I bought from understood my disgust and agreed a fully refund; no hassle. It was a relief because; there was no way in living hell I'dhave agreed to the work being done.

Has anyone been brave enough to mention to their insurance company that their car has had part of its integral safety structure re-welded?

The good news is that it's been a week since I reported the problem and nothing yet from JLR. Oh sorry that's not good news that's crap customer service. In this day of modern communication nothing, especially a complaint, should take over a week for a reply even if it was just a curtesy we'll get back to you soon.

Refuse the car. Plain and simple; trust me. Some have reported having their car butchered up only to have the problem come back again. Not worth it and not fair.

Yes I'm 95% sure that's what I'm going to do but I first need to confirm that it is indeed the B pillar rattle, would look silly if it was just the rear seat or something  but I'm not happy excepting a structural compromise to the body shell as a fix to an issue that is ongoing and has not been fixed in two years despite claims (lies) to the contrary.

The dealer also needs to get their finger out otherwise the replacement won't be ordered from them.

If you reject a car, are you then left car-less until your new one is delivered, or do you get to keep the rejected car until then?

Good question and one I will be asking the dealer, she did say previously that if mine did not turn up on time I'd get a loaner until mine arrived so expect the same when I reject otherwise I'll just order from a broker and save an extra £1800 (I'd have done that first time had I known) which would pay for a hire car for a few days a week I really need it. Otherwise I'm afraid it's a Q5 but would prefer not to have to.
