Just had a quick look for you. The older car is using NEDC figures, the newer car is using the stricter WLTP figures. In real life, I do not think you would notice any difference in actual fuel consumption between them. Both look nice cars! I am very pleased with the Si4 240 so the 290 must go really well. I also think both are 9 speed autos. Not aware the DS has an 8 speed box.

Have you driven a 290 petrol as I think compared to the 2.2 you won't be blown away by the extra 100 bhp.

The 290 is much nicer in terms of smoothness and ride, but if you are doing about 60 and put your foot down the 290 is no where near as good to respond as you would have expected, I think it's because the 2.2 is at that speed, in its sweet spot and responds quite well.

Oddly I was looking at the blue one as well as we are potentially looking to move to a 290 and that blue one is very well specified.

If the 290 was better I'd have ordered a new one last year but I just don't think they are good enough to warrant their price especially once you have added the expected extras like adaptive cruise, upgraded entertainment etc....

So we have decided to see if a good spec 290 comes up, wait and see if some fantastic deal comes up on a new 290 once the revised DS comes out later this year or if the revised DS is better, we may go for that.

The 290 in sport can shift a lot better as it keeps hold of the revs, which the petrol engine likes

So what was the outcome of checking out the two DS's - the blue one I enquired about is a 5 seater and therefore not for us as the only reason we are still in a DS is due to the 5+2 seating

Not done anything yet about change. Reading motoring press reports seem to show the car is very smooth and quiet but their mpg struggled to get to 22mpg, and I think that was the 240 not 290! I think I need to test the petrol version as so far I've tried a Q5 and Tiguan petrol but not been impressed with the power compared to my 2.2.

Have to say friend has a brand new Tiguan - it has every possible option on it. Like the looks and the tech, but honestly the DS is in different class when it comes to quality of materials, sound, feel and ride.

I had a P290 for a weekend when changing last summer, and I agree with the comments about the smoothness etc, but you have to push the P290 to get the best out of it, where the P240, you could argue is more usable.

But as I tow a caravan, I bought the Dynamic Lux with the twin turbo D240, which is far superior for mid range grunt than the P240 and P290.
