Hi there,

One option to get live traffic info for the car is to add a data SIM. Three are now offering a free 200Mb per month data SIM:

https://www.three.co.uk/Free_SIM_MBB/Order

You just need to ensure that you go into the Connectivity options settings on the car and set a 200MB data limit per month.

Roy.

Excellent spot Roy, particularly as my existing Trio SIM expires at the end of this month. Ordered immediately.

Mods, please make this thread a sticky as it's an absolute result and a must-have for anyone with a SIM slot.

I am picking up my 2016 Discovery Sport HSE this weekend, would my car be able to utilise this? Sorry for being naive but not 100% sure what the car comes with 😳 Thanks

Had one of those for a couple of years in a 3G dongle.

Use it for emails when I go abroad

Has anyone tried using this ?
Over in FPace land they say it needs to be registered.

None of the 3 data sims normally need to be registered so why does this one need it ?

It needs to be registered so that they can top it up by 200mb each month.

Plus they probably want to spy on you and sell your data on to various Governments worldwide, a la Arsebook/Twatter et al... ;)

Thanks for this original poster. My SIM has been registered and installed.

My understanding is the SIM needs to be registered in order to qualify for the 200Mb per month free. I also found it impossible to register from the Land Rover web browser as it blocked the Three registration page! In the end I installed the SIM in an old unlocked mobile phone to complete registration as it didn't seem possible to do this from a computer either.

It seems well worth the effort though

Thanks for this, OP! Registered and got mine. I set the data warning to 190 MB and the DS seems to have gotten through that in only a couple of weeks! Will have to keep an eye on it. If it keeps going over, will get one of these:

Three Mobile Pay As You Go Mobile Broadband 24 GB Data SIM

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01M3VJ2B2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_DF7uDbM0Y2S9G

24GB for use over 24 months for £43, which works out to about £1.80 per month!

ETA I've bought loads of these sims in the past, usually for use in various iPads. Works perfectly.

I use the 12GB version, cost me £31.00
