This is kinda worrying me as my ds is being built on Friday, any day but Friday. The guy from my dealership who I ordered with is at the factory for a look around, so I just emailed him ,any rattles and their getting it back. End of. How can they still be getting this wrong?

Hey Barns........absolutely brilliant !....the problem solved at long last.

Land Rover branded ear defenders, ..that automatically drop down from the roof in the event of a ticking emergency ....😯
Or turn the radio up....

Hi All, I am taking delivery at the end of the month for a 2016 HSE lux after a few years ownership of both an Audi A6 and A4. I am a little concerned as I had this issue with my new A4 which went back to the dealer three times. Same location in the B piller. In the end it was the seat belt mechanism which was replaced in full and has fixed it. I am changing to LR as I wanted something different with road presence. Any advice on issues would be very welcome and what to look out for when owning a Discovery Sport. Thanks in advance, Simon.

Hi Simon, it may not be much help but there is no guarantee as to whether or not the car you are buying has the B pillar problem or not. Have you driven the car already? Best advice is probably to keep your fingers well and truly crossed.

Hi
Rear seat belts are attached to C pillar , but yes the seat belt holder for front seat passengers was part of the 10 stage fix on the DS , to re rivet them .
Anyway ...
New DS are supposedly fixed with respects to BPillar , but older vehicles are still susceptible.

Better of to search for oil dilution, early service, DPF faults to get some info ,the search on here is pretty good and you can ask questions on the relevant threads about these issues .

A good long test drive is always best

As above. I bought mine blind but with eyes wide open, and so far only the oil dilution and ticking b pillar remain unresolved.

Those issues aside, it's a fantastic and versatile vehicle, and if those issues were fixed for good then I would be keeping hold of it. Sadly, it would appear that they will never be fixed, so on that basis I will be bowing out in the next month or so and taking the financial hit on the chin. Shame really...

Just as an update to my post above :

I spent the week with the DS in Devon last week, and the B pillar rattle has all but vanished, all by itself. Not a tick or rattle from it all week between temperatures of 18 and 25 degrees!

However.......

Somehow, it now seems to have moved to somewhere around the lower drivers door area....at least that's where it sounds like it's coming from. Every day is different with this motor.....

(And yes, it is for sale!)

Badgerface, I can't recall hearing about anyone else who has experienced what you have.

Perhaps it's sensed that it's for the chop

Any ideas what you'll replace it with? (Only if you want to say that is)

No, not at the moment Chippy. I'm going to put the money back in the bank and stay with the Freelander for now. Whatever it ultimately is, it certainly won't be from the JLR stable!

I have been thinking of a Skoda Kodiac.
A matter of taste as always but it generally seems to get very good reviews at least here in the German press.
Kodiaq is good. I've always fancied a Wrangler though and the new five door JL model looks like a fun beast.

Will be hanging on for the new Defender though (110 equiv) and this maybe my last JLR car. I'm getting to the point that I don't really need a large 4x4 that costs £60K plus ! Time soon to reflect on life and maybe simplify things.

Solution , cost 1 Euro .

Just use clear rubber feet. Have a look at the picture
That's no b pillar tick , that's door adjustment required , which incidentally is the first item on the lJLR document for dealers to check.whether they check this or not is debatable.

No. Thats the solution to B Pillar Rattle or Tick noise. I have been through all the solutions and this has worked good ..just give it a try
There are many causes of the tick including faulty welds , faulty sealant runs , black trim , door adjustment if your dealer couldn't find this issue Id change dealer . Go back to your dealer and get it fixed by them properly.
That's a door rattle , the b pillar tick is inside the pillar if you havre the genuine tick and not just a rattle in the area.

If LAG says she/he have/has fixed and is satisfied then the last thing I'd do is to get a dealer involved. We all know what they are capable of.

Just accept what LAG says and basta.

Just thinking if he reports his findings back to the dealer it might just :

A let the dealer know he's crap at finding faults
B stop some other poor sod having their car butchered for no reason

Does anybody know how to remove the glossy black plastic trim on the outside of the front doors? The part which runs up the side of the window near the B pillar. If I press on mine from the outside there is clear movement and a ticking sound, I am pretty sure this is contributing to my problem, and I would like to remove it to investigate further and maybe add some padding underneath, but I can't see any way of removing it and don't want to force it without understanding how it fits on. Advice much appreciated.
