Heater/Air Con Fan not working.

I recently had the following problem and am wondering whether or not anyone else has experienced the same or similar.

Leaving home recently the heating and ventilation system worked normally.

After hitching up the caravan which we keep in a compound close to our home and driving off again the whole heating and ventilation system including the air conditioning crashed.

By trial and error we found out that by very slightly opening any one of the windows the system functioned again but in a very limited way. Minimum fan speed, no a/c and no heating.

After about 100km we parked up for about 10 minutes and upon driving off again full functionality had returned. There has been no repeat of the problem since.

Anyone care to contribute? Thanks in advance.

I have had something like this......have lost heating a couple of times briefly but the fan appears still to work eg full demist fan at max. I have also had a slight drop in radiator fluid level since I have had the DS, the latest one recently. It is booked into the dealers early Jan for a brake squeal issue but have this on the list. Any comments appreciated! :D
My fan wouldn't work at all. Removed the battery cover and spun the fan this morning and now working normally again. Car is in for a list of minor issues on 10th Jan so assuming it doesn't break again before then the dealer can take a look. I probably should have called or assist just to have got it on record but it literally took 2 mins to sort myself.

Mine is booked on on the 4th Jan for this fault and 4 wheel drive failure, dealer said last week that parts are not available for the fan fix yet, mine failed 28 November.

Hi,

I have the same issue, fan won't spin.
BUT I couldn't get to the fan to spin it manually. Have they changed the location for MY16?
There is just no way to see it where it is supposed to be and no way at all to get my hand in there either.
Any ideas?

Hi Hauser,
It's probably not much use as mine is the 2.2 engine but on this model the fan is accessed by the removable cover behind the battery on the right hand side. A long handled screwdriver is needed just to slightly move the fan. Once the motor is replaced an extra weatherproof seal is fitted under the cover. Mine was replaced a while ago and no problems since. It is a major job as the whole dash has to be removed but this was carried out fine by the dealer.

Mine's the same, 2.2, just waiting for them to get the parts, dosen't look like LRCR read their posts on the forum

Mine has also packed up this week! Dealer informs me they have two other DS's in for the same problem. Apparently it is a two day job to replace once LR can supply the new units.
Final nail in the coffin for LR as far as I'm concerned. Now looking at the new Petrol engined Porsche Cayenne.

Heater fan - safety critical? I don't think so!
I disagree. Try driving the car with no way of keeping the windows clear. It's either a safety issue or if you're sensible and don't drive with it broken it means the car is completely unusable. If I hadn't fixed mine myself i'd have been demanding a courtesy car until it was fixed.

Safety critical is brakes, steering, suspension, wheels, tyres and increasingly the affiliated sensors and software - and not much else. You can wipe a screen.

Not forgetting lights, wiper, screen wash, etc. but even those don't cause accidents as such if they break (other than by loss of vision) - all the MOT items I guess,,,,

Until the 60's heaters were an option!

When my fan failed LR Assist got it working with the long screwdriver. They advised if it stuck again before the replacement parts were available they would get it into the dealers and provide a loan car for the full period until the parts arrived. The heated screens cleared the inside and outside of the front and back windows but with seven in the car the side windows were streaming and were a safety problem.

Fan is supposed to come at the end of the upcoming week.
My dealer has now 3 more Disco Sport with this issue, all waiting for fans to be replaced.

All too familiar. Happened twice and dealer decided to change motor. They have stripped the car and guess what....no spare part and now on back order. They knew it needed a part before they took the car in so why start without it.
That was two weeks ago and they have leant me a Range Rover. I am not a happy bunny.

Must be a tough life you lead, having to suffer a Range Rover over a DS......

Stil waiting for the fan.
Meanwhile there are 7(!) Disco Sport with this issue waiting at my dealers garage.
That seems to be a major issue.

Mine booked in for Wednesday/Thursday next week after getting on to Landrover by using the Resolver site.
Still don't know what the fix is

Mine just failed after coming back from holiday where it stood for a while in a car park.
Called LR assist and they came next day with a long screwdriver to get it going. Its booked in this week at the local dealer "for investigation".

Not good news red kite. You need to put a long garden cane in the boot as suggested by someone else on here. ;)

You need to call LR assist on a regular basis and try to avoid a self fix or they will put the fix off for while as I discovered
