Outside temperature sensor issues.

I started up my DS over the weekend after it'd just been sitting about 5 minutes, and after about a minute of driving noticed it was getting very warm inside, despite the climate control being set at a "fresh" 18°c. I twiddled all the controls but still the vents kept pumping out hot air. Then after a couple more minutes driving I noticed that the outside temperature shown on the dash display was showing -35°c, but was going up 1° at a time. Thankfully, it only took another few minutes until it had climbed back to the "real" outside temperature of about 16° and everything settled back to normal.

Anyone else experienced the same? The full circumstances were I'd stopped in a car park, turned off the ignition but stayed in the car with the radio playing, then started the car again after about 5 mins without getting out of it in the meantime.

My 06 Disco 3 HSE used to do that every now & again - I took it to be one of those endearing land rover features. Sometimes it would be way below the current temperature, like yours, other times only 5 - 10 degrees below. Weird ! I guess the techyy programmer had a boring afternoon when the chipset was designed.

Happened to me today. Parked up for 15 mins with everything off. Decided to listen to the radio and noticed that the clock had frozen at the time I turned on the radio. Started car and drove off, clock jumped ahead 10 mins to correct time. Heating came on hot then noticed that the external temperature was showing -30degC and climbing. Soon stabilised at 17degC and all was normal.

I've just seen all the snowplows lined up on the apron at the airport - winter may be on it's way but so far my temperature gauge seems OK.

Happened to me a few weeks back, just after 1st service, also had warning lights on, I put a post on here about it to see if anyone else had had issues, not done it since.

It was under Erratic Display, no replies but 150+ views :(

Yesterday, it was about -2°C in the Brussels area
Drove my car and stopped at my parents-in-law
Locked car and went inside
10' later, opened car to drive back to home. To my surprise, the outside temp was indicating a North Canadian climate: -40°C
While driving, the temperature creeped slowly up. It took approx 15' to get back to normal.

Today, same scenario but outside temp was 0°C
Started car = normal temp
Stopped car = normal temp
Went 10' inside
Started car = suddenly -15°C
Arrived at home, everything normal...

Is it a known error or should I go to the dealer to have the lot checked for water ingress or another kind of electrical error :)

I had the same problem. They replaced the complete mirror on the left side (under warranty) since that is where the ambient temperature sensor is placed and it can't be ordered as a single part...
Has been working fine since.

Hello everyone, my name is Steve Richardson and I'm new to the forum.

Before I start, I think the DS is a great car and it ticks all the boxes for me apart from;

I've had on going issues with my DS (HSE Auto) with regard to the external temperature reading from new ,September 2016. I've also had recovery out for a transmission fault and on another occasion not being able to start the vehicle because it wouldn't recognise my foot was on the break pedal when I tried to start the car.

The fault is intermittent and seems more likely to occur when I've made a journey, parked up and then returned to the vehicle while its still warm. When it faults (readings anywhere up to -40degrees) it does try to recover but typically the temperature gauge reading remains 10 degrees lower than the actual air temperature for the remainder of that journey. This does effect the cabin temperature and the car forces warm air back into the cabin to compensate for supposedly cold conditions.

Its been back to the dealer a few times, had two new temp gauges and a new power control module none of which has resolved the fault. The dealer and JLR have both stated that they are unaware of anyone else having similar issues but I see from the forum posts I'm not alone.

Has anyone out there managed to get a similar situation resolved? I'd be grateful for any advice.

The ambient outside temp is taken from a sensor inside the wing mirror, have they changed that sensor ?

You can see it underneath the wing mirror clips into inside of mirror at the bottom.

Quite common in Evoque on their forum too.

Here's another thread about it where I posted the link to the mirror pictures on eBay where you can see the temp sensor inside the Evoque.

The temperature gauge has been replaced twice and this week its had a new power control module as advised by LR technical. However, it hasn't resolved the problem! This Friday (10th Feb) the temperature gauge readings were anywhere between -22 and 3 degrees (In Sheffield) and as a consequence the climate control/cabin temperature was erratic.

It would be useful to know if the problem is common place and I'd welcome any feedback?

Steve, for your statistics this was not a problem on my MY16 vehicle nor in the current MY17 one.

I do get this occasionally. First fix is a software update I'm told. Will wait for it to get annoying or for its first service.

Had the same problem with mine. They exchanged the whole side mirror since the temperature sensor is an integrated part of it and can't be ordered as a stand-alone spare part...
It works better now. If/when it happens it is only 5-10 °C less that reality and it climbs up faster again.
This only happens when I park (engine off, locked etc.) the car for a few moments only (1-2 Minutes) and then drive on.
If the car if off and locked for a few minutes longer it won't happen...

My experience is much the same as stephank. I was getting temperatures of around -35C climbing slowly to normal . The dealer changed the door-mirror unit last week and it was behaving itself until today, when it registered -4C after a short stop and then climbed to the real ambient temperature of +5C after a few minutes.
