Sos system functionality

I have the delight of having this warning on my dash every time on start-up. I did think yesterday it had not appeared but sure enough it appeared...grrrr

The local stealer proudly explained to me firstly it would need 'booking in' and 2ndly that it would be £120 to run diagnostics.. Sounds quite bizarre as that comes with no promise they will a) know what the problem is a b) manage to sort it....
Oh and they then proudly told me if it needs any software updates as I have a 2015 plate that would be chargeable Sir as its out of warranty

I have decided they are not the way forward

This still leaves me with the issue already mentioned.. from reading this forum I suspect the issue to be a Telematics Module maybe.. possibly the battery backup.. indeed it might be software updates..
I read somewhere I might be able to do this myself? Can anyone verify this is correct?
Curiously I don't believe a fault code is rearing its head for this.. but I might be mistaken.. any thoughts or guidance welcome

An EU Dictat orders that the SOS functionality remains active in the vehicle for 10 years after first registration, albeit in a limited capacity. Therefore, whether or not you renewed the InControl Protect licence or not, this feature HAS to work, by law.

I can understand the retailer being difficult as they will not want to do anything for nothing if they can possible get away with it. My suggestion would be to either a) swallow the diagnostic fee and see what they come back with...... And/or open a case with CEC with the retailers findings, reminding the manufacturer that not only do they have a legal obligation to ensure that this feature remains working correctly, but also if it is hardware related that the vehicle is less than 6 years old, and your Consumer Rights still apply, and you are expecting a significant contribution from the manufacturer as the goods are clearly not fit for purpose.

Alternatively, unless you are planning on driving it head-first into a tree (which is how it is activated), just ignore it and carry on regardless.

No, of course not. Unless the EML lamp is lit on the dash (which it won't be), then it is nothing whatsoever to do with the road worthiness of the vehicle.

What is the status of your InControl account? Chances are the problem lies there, and nothing whatsoever to do with any hardware on the vehicle.....

Well.. I haven't got an InControl account .. should I set one up? I was going to setup one up yesterday but wasn't sure if it was necessary..

Also .. probably to make matters worse the vehicle was transported and its highly unlikely that any setting/ mode was activated before, during or indeed after..

I did some reading about In Control.. but your thoughts are excellent Sarahstreet thank you so much.. if you could point me further in the right direction with this I would be very much obliged :)
